THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS LOST TO DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION LAST NIGHT AT DEWITT IN TOURNAMENT SOFTBALL. THE FIVE ERRORS DIDN'T HELP. BUT, NO SENIORS ON THE TEAM, SO THE CARDINALS SHOULD BE VERY GOOD AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
A RURAL MAQUOKETA MAN WANTS TO GET ANSWERS CONCERNING A SMELLY OVERFLOW INTO A COUNTY DITCH ON DARK HOLLOW ROAD. THIS MORNING, AT THE SUPERVISORS MEETING AT THE COURTHOUSE, WAYNE DAGUE BROUGHT IN A JAR FILLED WITH DARK WATER HE SAID CAME FROM THE COUNTY DITCH. HE OFFERED TO OPEN THE JAR BUT THE SUPERVISORS SAID NO. DAGUE SAID THE WATER IS FOUL SMELLING. IT IS SUSPECTED THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM THE NEARBY JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY. MARTHA GANTZER-KUETER, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE SUPERVISORS, SAID SHE WAS TOLD THE COUNTY HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANIMAL WASTE. DAGUE SAID HE'S FRUSTRATED THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED AFTER A YEAR OF QUESTIONS. HE ALSO SAID THE HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDS TO MOW ITS NOXIOUS WEEDS.
THERE WILL BE A MIDNIGHT SHOWING TONIGHT AT THE VOY 3 THEATRE OF THE NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE. ALREADY OVER 50 TICKETS HAVE BEEN SOLD.
A FIRST FOR THE THEATRE. IN LARGER CITIES, MIDNIGHT SHOWS OF A
MEGA MOVIE ARE QUITE COMMON. THIS MOVIE IS EXPECTED, LIKE THE OTHER POTTER MOVIES, TO BE A BIG HIT.
LAST WEEK, THEY SPRAY PAINTED ALL THREE FORMER BEIDLER IMPLEMENT BUILDINGS SOUTH OF TOWN. MUST MEAN SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THEM! KEEP TUNED.
