THE CALAMUS-WHEATLAND BOYS ARE GOING TO THE STATE BASEBALL
TOURNAMENT IN DES MOINES THIS SATURDAY, BECAUSE OF THEIR WIN
LAST NIGHT. THEY WILL PLAY LENOX AT 6 P.M. SATURDAY NIGHT AND THE GAME WILL BROADCAST ON KMAQ-AM 1320.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN JUNE FOR JACKSON COUNTY WAS 7.9 PERCENT,
UP FROM 7.2 PERCENT IN MAY. THE JUNE RATE WAS THE SAME AS IN CLINTON COUNTY. JONES COUNTY WAS 6.8 PERCENT, CEDAR COUNTY WAS 5.5 PERCENT AND
DUBUQUE COUNTY 6.5 PERCENT. THE STATE OF IOWA RATE WAS 6.2 PERCENT.
THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY NIGHT, AGREED TO TALK TO THE CITY COUNCIL ABOUT BUYING THE OLD SWIMMING POOL AND
LAND AND POSSIBLY CONVERTING THE LAND TO A PARKING LOT FOR GOODENOW FOOTBALL AND SOCCER FIELD ACROSS THE STREET.
