NICE TODAY. SUNNY AND WARM.
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AT THEIR MEETING THIS
WEEK DISCUSSED AGAIN THE BIODIESEL PLANT EXPANSION, BY GARY DREW.
A SECOND READING OF AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE EXPANSION WAS
ON THE AGENDA, BUT SOME CHANGES WERE MADE. SO THE SUPERVISORS
DECIDED TO START THE PROCESS OVER AND WILL HAVE ANOTHER FIRST
READING NEXT TUESDAY. ADDED TO THE NEW ORDINANCE: A SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLATION BY JULY 1ST. A SECURITY FENCE, TO BE FINISHED AS SOON
AS POSSIBLE. CONTAINERS IN THE FUTURE USED TO STORE FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS MUST BE MADE OF STEEL. AND ORDINANCE WILL STATE THAT WASTE FROM THE PLANT (GLYCERIN) CAN BE USED FOR ROAD DUST CONTROL BUT NOT SPREAD ON AGRICULTURAL LAND.
THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA WILLL PROCEED WITH REPLACING ALL THEIR STREET SIGNS WITH THE HELP OF A $4,000 GRANT FROM THE 3-M COMPANY. THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION HAS GIVEN CITIES A 2015 DEADLINE TO REPLACE OLD SIGNS WITH NEW REFLECTIVE ONES. IN ADDITION TO THE $4,000
GRANT, THE CITY WILL HAVE TO COME UP WITH AN ADDITIONAL $12,000.
THANKS TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, THERE ARE OVER 500 SIGNS TO BE REPLACED.
WENT PAST THE NEW CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE BUILDING YESTERDAY.
LOCATED NEXT TO THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS LOOKING GREAT AND
WORK IS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. IT WILL OPEN IN AUGUST.
JUNE IS DAIRY MONTH. HAVE SOME ICECREAM TONIGHT.
