IT HAS BEEN A NICE DAY....HIGH IN 70'S. RAIN COMING TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY.'
WHILE DOING THE AUCTION SHOW SATURDAY, AT THE 10 A.M. NEWS BREAK,
A MAQUOKETAN FROM WAY BACK STOPPED IN.
BERNIE AULWES, MAQUKETA CITY MANAGER FROM 1964 - 69 AND BEFORE THAT,
CITY FINANCE OFFICER. LOOKED GOOD.....LITTLE GRAY HAIR OF COURSE.
RETIRED AND LIVING IN SOUTHERN IOWA. I ONLY HAD A COUPLE MINUTES TO TALK TO HIM AND TOLD HIM TO EMAIL ME WITH MORE INFO ON WHAT HE'S BEEN DOING SINCE LEAVING TOWN. SO, WHEN I HEAR FROM HIM, I'LL PASS ON MORE
INFORMATION. WAS A GOOD CITY MANAGER.
THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOLS EDUCATION FUND BREAKFAST WAS HELD THIS MORNING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. ESTABLISHED 6 YEARS AGO, IN ITS FIRST 5 YEARS, IT HAS DISTRIBUTED $72,000 TO ENHANCE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. TRACY WALLER, CHAIRPERSON OF THE ADVISORY COUNCIL AND MEMBER JANE SCHMIDT CONDUCTED THE PROGRAM. WALLER GAVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE JERRY ANDRESEN. ANDRESEN'S WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN WERE AT THE BREAKFAST. $4,500 HAS BEEN GIVEN BY THE FAMILY TO THE EDUCATION FUND, LAST MONTH, AND THE LARGEST MEMORIAL TO DATE.
THEN RECIPIENTS OF THIS YEAR'S GRANTS WERE ANNOUNCED. THE LARGEST OF $4,448 WENT TO THE HIGH SCHOOL MATH PROGRAM AND WILL BE USED
FOR A INTERACTIVE GEOMETRY SYSTEM. $4,268 AWAS GIVE FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE CENTER. SEVERAL GRANTS WERE AWARDED FOR THE PURCHASE OF 8 ELMOS, THE LATEST IN PROJECTION SYSTEMS. THEN A GRANT FOR $1,814 FOR A WIND TUNNEL FOR CO2 CARS.....$300 FOR BOOKS AT MIDDLE SCHOOL....$600 FOR CIRCLE BOOKS AT MIDDLE SCHOOL. $299 FOR BETTER PARENTS MATERIALS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.....$663 FOR HOSA BOWL MATERIALS TO HELP TEACH MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY.....AND $807 FOR NEW SEWING MACHINES AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. ANYONE CAN GIVE TO THE EDUCATION FUND AND THIS MONEY MAKES AN IMPACT ON THE EDUCATION OF MAQUOKETA STUDENTS BY FUNDING PROJECTS OUTSIDE THE NORMAL SCHOOL BUDGET.
GOT AN EMAIL FROM JERRY AND DOROTHY RASMUSSEN, WHO HAVE BEEN AT
THEIR NEW HOME IN EAST WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON, FOR NEARLY A MONTH
ALREADY. THEY ARE 15 MINUTES FROM SON PHIL'S HOME. JERRY SAID
THEY ARE NOW PRETTY WELL SETTLED AFTER A HECTIC MONTH. HE DIDN'T SAY HOW HE LIKED IT OUT THERE. BUT, I BET THEY DO. HE IS KEEPING UP WITH MAQUOKETA NEWS WITH THIS DAILY REPORT. I HAVE HIS EMAIL ADDRESS AND REGULAR MAIL ADDRESS IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE IT. I BELIEVE THEIR CONDO IN MAQUOKETA HAS NOT YET BEEN SOLD.
CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
