THERE WILL BE SOME NEEDED STREET WORK DONE THIS YEAR IN MAQUOKETA.
THE IOWA DOT HAS NOTIFIED THE CITY THAT IT WILL PATCH HIGHWAY 64 (WHICH IS PLATT STREET) FROM HIGHWAY 61 EASTERLY TO HIGHWAY 62 ON THE EAST EDGE OF TOWN.
AND THE CITY PLANS TO USE ITS FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY TO RESURFACE NORTH AND SOUTH MAIN STREET.
NO INJURIES IN A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT 6:30 THIS MORNING ABOUT 4 MILES NORTH OF MAQUOKETA ON THE CAVES ROAD. CHIEF DEPUTY ED CLARK SAID JUDY NEINKARK, AGE 52, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON THE CAVES ROAD AND IT WAS COVERED WITH FROST. SHE LOST CONTROL AND SLID ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND HIT A CULVERT. HER 2000 OLDSMOBILE WAS TOTALED.
ON THE SHERIFF'S BLOTTER: DARIN DYSON REPORTED YESTERDAY THAT SOMEONE BROKE INTO HIS HOME.
MARILYN FRANZEN REPORTED YESTERDAY THAT TWO TRACTORS IN THEIR SHED HAD THE WINDOWS BROKEN OUT.
AND LEONARD BONK REPORTED TUESDAY THAT SOMEONE TOOK A CHAIN SAW AND MOTOR FROM A LOG SPLITTER. THE TWO ITEMS VALUED AT OVER $800.
MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL GOT THIS NICE LETTER FROM A PARADE WATCHER IN HOUMA, LOUISIANA.
"WORDS CANNOT EXPLAIN THE AMAZING PERFORMANCE THAT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BAND PRESENTED TO US ON MARDI GRAS DAY. WHEN YOUR BAND PASSED IN FRONT OF US, THEY STOPPED AND PRESENTED A VERY AMAZING AND REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE....ONE THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. IT WAS TRULY AN HONOR TO HAVE YOUR BAND BE A PART OF OUR 2009 MARDI GRAS
FESTIVITIES AND HOPEFULLY WILL COME BACK NEXT YEAR."
OMA SAGERS OF MAQUOKETA CELEBRATED A BIG BIRTHDAY TODAY. AND SHE'S STILL DOING TAX WORK AT THE LAW OFFICE NEXT DOOR.
TAKE IT EASY OUT THERE.
