30 THE HIGH TODAY IN MAQUOKETA.
40-PLUS TOMORROW.
AND IN 50'S THURSDAY.
GOOD WEATHER NEWS.

MAQUOKETA HAS RECEIVED AN $85,000 FORGIVABLE LOAN FROM THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO HELP CLEAN UP THE DEBRIS FROM THE JANUARY 2008 FIRE IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL RECEIVED THE NEWS AT THEIR MEETING LAST NIGHT.
ANOTHER $25,000 GRANT IS ALMOST CERTAIN, AND SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED SOON.
A REQUEST FOR A $200,000 GRANT IS ALSO POSSIBLE, BUT WORD ON IT COULD BE
TWO OR THREE MONTHS AWAY. PLUS, THE CITY WILL BE GETTING THE INSURANCE MONEY FROM THE PROPERTY OWNERS. IF EVERYTHING WOULD COME THROUGH,
THE TOTAL WOULD BE OVER $400,000 AND MAYBE MORE THAN NEEDED TO DO
THE CLEAN-UP. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. CROSS YOUR FINGERS.

MAQUOKETA SCHOOL SUPT. KIM HUCKSTADT HAS APPLIED FOR THE JOB OF
SUPERINTENDENT AT NORTH SCOTT IN ELDRIDGE. IN FACT, HE IS AMONG THE FIVE FINALISTS. ABOUT 50 APPLIED FOR THE JOB. HUCKSTADT, AGE 53, HAS HAD THE HEAD JOB HERE SINCE 2001.

TAKE CARE.
