SENATOR ROGER STEWART (DEM), WHO OWNS AND LIVES ON FARM JUST OFF HIGHWAY 64 HALFWAY BETWEEN MAQUOKETA AND PRESTON, HAD GUESTS IN DES MOINES THIS WEEK FROM MAQUOKETA. BONNIE AND CHARLES MITCHELL OF MAQUOKETA WERE IN THE CAPITAL CITY TO TALK ABOUT THE ROLE JACKSON COUNTY IS PLAYING IN CREATING A GREAT PLACE IN JACKSON COUNTY. SHOWN AT LEFT, THEY STOPPED OFF TO VISIT WITH SEN. STEWART. ALSO, STANDING NEXT TO THE GREAT PLACES SIGN ON ROGER'S RIGHT IS FRANCIS BOGGUS, THE GREAT PLACES OF IOWA COORDINATOR. BONNIE IS CURATOR OF THE TWO JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUMS, THE LONGTIME MUSEUM ON THE FAIRGROUNDS AND THE NEW CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM. CHARLES WAS A KEY
MAN IN KEEPING THE OLD CLINTON ENGINES OFFICE BUILDING AND CONVERTING IT INTO A FANTASTIC MUSEUM. BECAUSE JACKSON COUNTY IS A GREAT PLACES COUNTY (ONE OF JUST A FEW), IT RECEIVED GRANTS AND A SIZABLE ONE WAS FOR THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM. THE GREAT PLACES OFFICE IS ESPECIALLY PLEASED ABOUT HOW JACKSON COUNTY GREAT PLACES MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT AND INVITED BONNIE AND CHARLES TO COME TO DES MOINES AND TELL
THIER STORY OF SUCCESS. BOTH MUSEUMS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC,
INCLUDING WEEKENDS.
