THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB AND WAL MART RECENTLY PURCHASED AT Wii
FOR THE MAQUOKETA AREA YMCA AND NOW THE YMCA WILL HOST A SERIES
OF Wii SPORTS TOURNAMENTS IN THE FIRST THREE WEEKENDS OF MARCH.
THE FIRST TOURNAMENT WILL BE Wii BOWLING ON MARCH 7TH. THEN TENNIS ON MARCH 14TH AND BOXING ON MARCH 21ST. IN EACH CASE, THE REGISTRATION
DEADLINE IS FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE TOURNEY. SIGN-UP SHEETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE YMCA AND AT ALL LOCAL SCHOOLS. THE TOURNEYS WILL BE HELD AT THE YMCA GYM. SEATING WILL BE AVAILABLE TO WATCH THE ACTION ON A LARGE SCREEN. TROPHIES AND MEDALS WILL BE AWARDED TO TOP FINISHERS.
SHOWN HERE IS LOIS FISCHER, MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST SECRETARY/TREASURER.
THE OPTIMISTS COVERED THE COST OF THE VIDEO GAME AND WAL MART CONTRIBUTED $100 TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF THE
EQUIPMENT. ALSO SHOWN HERE IS MATT CLARK, YMCA SPORTS PROGRAM DIRECTOR. CLARK SAID THE Wii PARTICIPATION IS NOT LIKE SITTING DOWN ON A COUCH PLAYING A VIDEO GAME BUT INSTEAD, KIDS GET INVOLVED AND PLAYING IS MORE ACTIVE. FISHCHER SAID THE OPTIMIST CLUB, WHICH MEETS EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING AT THE EAGLES CLUB, IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO INVOLVE YOUTH IN ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY.
