MICHELLE FLAGEL OF OF SOUTH 5TH STREET IN MAQUOKETA BAKED THIS GINGERBREAD HOUSE FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S ANNUAL SOUP SUPPER AND BASKET AUCTION. I WAS THERE AND PURCHASED IT FOR KMAQ.
IT IS ON OUR KMAQ FRONT COUNTER AND GETS MUCH ATTENTION. LOTS OF WORK WENT INTO THIS MASTERPIECE. THANK YOU MICHELLE. TO ENLARGE THE PHOTO,CLICK-ON IT ONCE. TO MAKE IT EVEN LARGER, CLICK-ON A SECOND TIME. THE BASKET AUCTION EVENT WAS HELD AT THE NEW CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM IN MAQUOKETA. ONE OF THE
BIG MOMENTS OF 2008 WAS THE OPENING OF THAT GREAT BUILDING. AND
IF I GAVE A "MAN OF THE YEAR" AWARD, IT WOULD GO TO CHARLES MITCHELL
FOR ALL THE WORK HE DID ....FIRST TO SAVE THE BUILDING FOR THE SOCIETY AND MAQUOKETA ...AND THEN GET IT RESTORED AND CONVERTED TO THE FANTASTIC MUSEUM IT IS. BE SURE AND VISIT IT NEXT TIME YOU COME TO MAQUOKETA. VISIT THE OLD MUSEUM TOO, IN THE PEARSON BUILDING AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. THANKS GENERAL MITCHELL!! AND THANKS ALSO TO HIS WIFE, BONNIE WELLS MITCHELL (MUSEUM CURATOR) AND HER STAFF FOR GIVING
JACKSON COUNTY TWO OF THE BEST COUNTY MUSEUMS IN THE COUNTRY.
TO CONTACT THE MUSEUMS, THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS: museum@jciahs.com
FINANCIAL BACKING IS ALWAYS WELCOME OF COURSE. IT TAKES A LOT TO
MAINTAIN THE TWO BUILDINGS, PLUS OTHER EXPENSES. THEY WELCOME YOU TO BECOME A MEMBER....THEY HAVE MEMORY BRICKS FOR SALE....AND DONATIONS OF CASH ARE ALWAYS WELCOME MANY PEOPLE GIVE A MEMORIAL TO THE MUSEUM WHEN A FRIEND DIES.
