CLOUDY TODAY AND IN THE 20'S. TONIGHT, SIX OR MORE INCHES OF SNOW IS COMING.
SOME RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS PLACES (INCLUDING KMAQ) HAD A COUPLE BRIEF POWER OUTAGES AROUND 2:30 THIS AFTERNOON. ENGINEERS WORKING AT THE MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL UTILITY PLANT INADVERTENTLY PULLED A FUSE WHICH TRIPPED A CURCUIT. THE FIRST TIME, ONE-THIRD OF THE CITY WAS AFFECTED AND THE SECOND TIME, ONLY A HANDFUL OF CUSTOMERS EXPERIENCED THE BRIEF POWER OUTAGE.
MAQUOKETA MAYOR,AND KMAQ ENGINEER,TOM MESSERLI HAD A LIGHT HEART ATTACK EARLY LAST NIGHT AND WAS TAKEN FROM THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL TO CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE AT
GENESIS EAST IN DAVENPORT WHERE THEY DID A "BALLOON" PROCEDURE AROUND 10 LAST NIGHT, PUTTING IN TWO "STINTS" OF A NEARLY CLOGGED ARTERY. HE'S BACK HOME THIS AFTERNOON
AND FEELING GOOD. HE'S HAD SOME PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. PROBABLY THE "STRESS" OF
BEING MAYOR....OR KEEPING KMAQ ON-THE-AIR. GLAD HE'S DOING GOOD! NOT SURE YET IF HE WILL DO HIS SATURDAY MORNING SHIFT ON KMAQ-FM FROM 6:30 TO 9 A.M.
MARLA SCHWAGER, AGE 60, OF BELLEVUE AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED LAST NIGHT AT MILL VALLEY CARE CENTER IN BELLEVUE. SERVICES PENDING AT LAHEY FUNERAL HOME
IN MAQUOKETA.
