HE DEFEATED REPUBLICAN DAVE KENDALL OF BELLEVUE BY FIFTEEN HUNDRED VOTES. ALL THE DEMOCRATS WON IN JACKSON COUNTY. THE TOTAL VOTE
WAS SLIGHTLY UNDER 10,000 (67%) AND SHORT OF A RECORD. ABSENTEE BALLOTS WERE A RECORD THOUGH, AND COUNTING OF THOSE TOOK UNTIL 11:30 LAST NIGHT.
TWO FIRES TODAY. MAQUOKETA FIREMEN HAD A BUSY MORNING. AT 7:30 A.M. THE CALL WAS FOR A BALER ON FIRE AT THE BRIAN WATTERS FARM AND AT 9 THIS MORNNG, A GRAIN DRYER CAUGHT ON FIRE AT THE MIKE MCLAUGHLIN FARM.
MAQUOKETA VOTERS IN THE FIRST WARD WILL GO TO THE POLLS AGAIN....ON DECEMBER 16TH, TO ELECT A NEW COUNCIL PERSON FROM THAT WARD.
THE HOURS WILL BE FROM NOON UNTIL 8 P.M. A PETITION WAS FILED REQUESTING THE SPECIAL ELECTION. SO FAR, NO ONE HAS OFFICIALLY FILED.
THE DEADLINE TO FILE IS NOVEMBER 20TH.
THE PRESTON GIRLS LOST TO SPRINGVILLE LAST NIGHT AND WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT.'
