THE NEW ADDITION TO THE 1964 ORIGINAL MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL WAS
OPENED TO THE PUBLIC YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. IT WAS CALLED A REDEDICATION. ONE WORD BEST DESCRIBES THE NEW ADDITION. WOW!!!
THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN AFTER APPROXIMATELY 300 WENT INSIDE THE BUILDING FOLLOWING THE 2:00 P.M. RIBBON CUTTING. TURNOUT WAS LOWER THAN I EXPECTED. THE HIGH RED PART IN THE MIDDLE IS THE AREA ABOVE THE ENTRY, COMMONS AREA AND OFFICE. IT IS A LARGE, OPEN SPACE. TO THE LEFT, THE NEW GYM. TO THE RIGHT, THE LARGE NEW CAFETERIA. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT IN PERSON TO APPRECIATE ITS SIZE AND BEAUTY. NO DOUBT, MAQUOKETA NOW HAS ONE OF THE FINEST GYMS IN THE STATE. THE CAFETERIA, WEIGHT ROOM,
OFFICE AND COMMONS AREA....ALL SPACIOUS AND ATTRACTIVE. ALL AIR-CONDITIONED. TRULY FIRST CLASS. CONGRATULATIONS TO SUPT. KIM HUCKSTADT, THE BOARD OF EDUCTION, AND EVERYONE THAT HAD A HAND IN THE COMPLETION OF THIS NEW MAQUOKETA FACILITY, TO BETTER EDUCATE OUR STUDENTS OF TODAY AND OUR LEADERS OF THE FUTURE. THE $6 MILLION PLUS ADDITION ALL PAID FOR BY THE 1% LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX. NEXT TIME YOU VISIT MAQUOKETA, YOU MUST VISIT THE HIGH SCHOOL. AND AFTER...YOU'LL ALSO WANT TO SEE MAQUOKETA'S OTHER TWO NEW SHOWPLACES....THE YMCA AND THE FIRE STATION. A GOOD TIME TO COME WOULD BE THE WEEK AND WEEKEND AFTER LABOR DAY FOR THE 2008 IOWA FIREMEN'S STATE CONVENTION, HOSTED BY MAQUOKETA FIREMEN.
