MAQUOKETA WEATHER WAS FINE OVER THE WEEKEND.
TODAY, IN THE LOW 80'S AND TOMORROW,UPPER 80'S.

THE CLASS OF '78 AT MCHS HELD THEIR 30TH RE-UNION FRIDAY NIGHT
AT TIMBER LANES AND SATURDAY NIGHT AT COSTELLO'S.

STILL HAVING CAR-DEER ACCIDENTS. SATURDAY MORNING, MARTIN CLASEN
DID NOT HIT ONE, BUT SWERVED TO MISS ONE AND RAN INTO THE DITCH, AND THE RESULT, WAS $2,750 DAMAGE TO HIS CAR. NO INJURIES.

THE NAME OF THE DRIVER WHO HIT THE JACKSON COUNTY SQUAD CAR ON JULY 3RD HAS BEEN RELEASED. HE IS BRANDON BODENHOFER, AGE 26, OF BALDWIN.
HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH DRIVING WHILE LICENSE BARRED AND ELUDING
POLICE. DEPUTY KEVIN SCOTT ATTEMPTED TO GET BODENHOFER TO STOP HIS VEHICLE IN THE BALDWIN CONVENIENCE STORE PARKING LOT. BODENHOFER ACCELLERATED IN AN ATTEMPT TO FLEE AND HIT THE SQUAD CAR, CAUSING $2,000 DAMAGE TO THE SQUAD.

THERE ARE 10 CANDIDATES FOR JACKSON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN AND ONE WILL
BE NAMED QUEEN SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE PEARSON CENTER ON THE
FAIRGROUNDS. CANDIDATES FROM MAQUOKETA ARE: CHELSIE FLAGEL, DAUGHTER OF DAVID AND CINDY FLAGEL.....AMBER HEINRICH, DUAUGHTER OF JOE AND SHELLY HEINRICH.....NATASHA LANE, DAUGHTER OF TOM AND ROBYN LANE.....
AND KALLI MUHLHAUSEN, DAUGHTER OF AL AND NANCY MUHLHAUSEN. THE WINNER WILL REIGN OVER THE FAIR NEXT WEEK AND REPRESENT JACKSON COUNTY IN THE STATE FAIR QUEEN CONTEST IN DES MOINES IN AUGUST.

FOR THE 3RD YEAR IN A ROW, THE MAQUOKETA POLICE WILL HOST A FREE "NIGHT OUT" PROGRAM AT THE FIRST WARD PARK....FROM 5:30 UNTIL 8 P.M.
IT IS MENT TO BRING RESIDENTS OF A COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO FIGHT CRIME.
FREE FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT. THE NIGHT IS AUGUST 5TH.

IN BUSINESS NEW, KENT FUGLSANG OF BALDWIN AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, HAS BEEN PROMOTED TO MANAGER OF THE "INNOVATIVE PROTEIN" PLAN ON EAST MAPLE STREET, IN THE MAQUOKETA INDUSTRIAL PARK. KENT FUGLSANG REPLACES CHUCK WILSON OF MAQUOKETA, WHO RETIRED THIS SPRING AFTER 41 YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT. WHEN HE STARTED, IT WAS THE SWISS VALLEY FARMS PLANT. KENT FUGLSANG STARTED WORK THERE IN 1981.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT. I HEAR THE FIRST OPEN HOUSE OF THE
NEW GYM AND CAFETERIA, BY INVITATION, WILL BE AUGUST 10TH. IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS THAT CLOSE TO BEING FINISHED. I'M SURE THE OPEN HOUSE TO THE PUBLIC WILL BE SOON AFTER. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED AND HAVE SOME OUTSIDE AND INSIDE PHOTOS UP HERE ON THE DAILY REPORT. YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED.

THE GREAT JONES COUNTY FAIR IN MONTICELLO STARTS TOMORROW.
THE CLINTON COUNTY FAIR IN DEWITT STARTS THIS WEDENSDAY.
THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR IS NEXT WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

AT CARSON'S.
