WHAT A WEEK IN IOWA! THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT US IN EVERY OTHER STATE.
THE FLOODING WAS UNBELIEVEABLE AND NOW THE CLEAN-UP BEGINS. I-80 IS STILL CLOSED FOR MANY MILES, AND TRAFFIC HAS BEEN HEAVY ON 4-LANE 61
BETWEEN DAVENPORT AND DUBUQUE. THE MAQUOKETA FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND WEATHER WAS PRETTY GOOD. NICE TURN-OUT FOR THE OPTIMIST CLUB FLY-IN, DRIVE-IN BREAKFAST AT THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT. WE DID GET A LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON STORM AND THAT CAUSED THE STOCK CAR RACES TO BE CANCELLED SATURDAY NIGHT. TODAY IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY AND WE ARE EXPECTING GOOD WEATHER ALL THIS WEEK. TWO WEEKEND DEATHS. ALFRED VOZENILEK, AGE 74, OF MAQUOKETA AND GRACE RECHTFERTIG, AGE 91, OF MAQUOKETA....AND FULL OBITUARIES CAN BE READ AT www.carsonandson.com
AND, DR. JEFFREY ANDERSON, AGE 48, OF BETTENDORF, DIED LAST WEEK AND HIS FUNERAL IS TOMORROW. HE WAS A FORMER MAQUOKETA RESIDENT. HIS DAD WAS KEN ANDERSON WHO WAS THE MANAGER OF THE GIBSON DISCOUNT STORE IN MAQUOKETA MANY YEARS AGO. I MAY HAVE ANOTHER REPORT LATER TODAY.
THE PHOTO HERE IS OF THE CAMPGROUNDS AT THE HORSESHOE POND PARK JUST SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA. THE PARK IS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD, IS LOOKING BETTER EVERY YEAR AS THE TREES GROW AND IS BEING USED EXTENSIVELY EVERY WEEK. THE CAMPGROUNDS WERE A GOOD ADDITION TO MAQUOKETA. OFF TO THE LEFT IS THE ROAD TO THE POND, WHICH ALSO IS POPULAR FOR CAMPERS ALONG THE SHORE AND FISHERMEN. HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
