THE MASONS WERE IN MAQUOKETA SATURDAY AFTERNOON. HELION LODGE #36 OF MAQUOKETA HOSTED A CORNERSTONE CEREMONY AT THE NEW MAQUOKETA FIRE STATION AT 2 P.M. THEY DID THIS FOR THE NEW CITY HALL IN THE LATE 80'S AND FOR THE NEW LIBRARY ADDITION 12 YEARS AGO. THE ACTUAL CEREMONY WAS CONDUCTED BY OUT OF TOWN STATE OFFICERS. BECAUSE IT WAS COLD AND WINDY, THE EVENT WAS HELD INSIDE THE NEW STATION. HERE, THE MASONS, INCLUDING LOCAL MASONS, LINED UP TO MARCH INTO THE FIRE STATION.
AFTER THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYED BY THE MAQUOKETA BAND, THE HALF-HOUR CEREMONY WAS HELD. MAQUOKETA FIREMEN, CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS,
AND OTHERS WERE PRESENT TO WATCH THE PROCEEDINGS, ALSO TAPED FOR
THE LOCAL ACCESS CHANNEL. AN IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY. A TIME CAPSULE WAS PUT IN THE CORNERSTONE.
