COOL, BUT SUNNY AND NICE TODAY. HOWEVER, MORE RAIN IN FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK. FARM LAND IS NOT GETTING DRIED OUT. SO, CORN IS NOT BEING PLANTED. AND THE CORN SHOWN BE PLANTED BY NO LATER THAN MAY 10TH.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL HAD THEIR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS DINNER
LAST NIGHT AT MICKEL'S. THE FREE DINNER IS GIVEN ANNUALLY TO THOSE
WHO SERVE FOR NOTHING ON A CITY BOARD OR COMMISSION. MAYOR TOM
WAS THE HOST AND EMCEE. A CHECK FOR OVER $33,000 WAS PRESENTED TO FIRE CHIEF MARK BECK. THIS WAS MONEY GIVEN TO THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
FOR THE "LOVE OF FIREMEN" ACCOUNT THAT WAS USED FOR VARIOUS THINGS,
INCLUDING AN APPRECIATION DINNER AND DANCE. THERE WAS MONEY LEFT OVER, HENCE THE CHECK GIVEN LAST NIGHT. THE MONEY INCLUDED $10,000 FROM ALLIANCE PIPELINE IN MAQUOKETA AND $15,000 FROM WAL MART. THE REST OF THE MONEY WAS GIVEN BY BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS, ORGANIZATIONS AND RESIDENTS. SOME OF THE MONEY WILL BE USED TO HELP PAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO THE AERIAL THAT BROKE DOWN DURING THE JANUARY 19TH FIRE.
FIREMEN THIS WEEK MOVED THEIR TRUCKS INTO THE NEW GARAGES AT THE NEW FIRE STATION. WON'T BE LONG AND THE NEW FIRE STATION ADDITION WILL BE DONE.
AT THE DINNER LAST NIGHT, MAYOR TOM PRAISED SOME LONGTIME VOLUNTEERS,
ESPECIALLY TOM BREUCH AND JIM DEUTMEYER. BOTH SERVE ON THE LIBRARY BOARD. TOM, LONGTIME ATTORNEY, HAS BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR AT LEAST 30 YEARS AND MAYBE AS LONG AS 33. THEY ARE DOING SOME CHECKING OF OLD MINUTES TO GET A BETTER COUNT. AND JIM, LONGTIME LIBRARIAN FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, NOW RETIRED (BUT PAINTING HOUSES) HAS SERVED FOR 27 YEARS.

THANKS FOR CHECKING IN. LOOKS LIKE I AM AVERAGING ABOUT 600 HITS A DAY AND THAT MAY MEAN AS MANY HAS A THOUSAND READING THIS. HOPE YOU LIKE THE PICTURES. THEY TAKE MORE TIME OF COURSE. YOU COULD ALL DO BETTER
WITH ENTRIES ON THE KMAQ GUEST BOOK!!!
