GOT DOWN TO 1 ABOVE OVERNIGHT. PARTY SUNNY THIS MORNING..NOW CLOUDS HAVE ARRIVED. SOUNDS LIKE THE WEEKEND WILL BE OKAY, WITH HIGHS IN THE 30'S...AND NEAR 40 SUNDAY.

THE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION HAD A "LOCK UP IN JAIL" FUNDRAISER
RECENTLY IN MAQUOKETA AND RAISED OVER $15,000 FROM THE JAILBIRDS.
THE MOCK JAIL WAS AT THE NEW YMCA AND ALL PARTICIPANTS WERE ASKED TO RAISE THEIR BAIL IN DONATIONS AND PLEDGES. THE TOP FUND-RAISERS WERE:
JOEL YANDA, MAQUOKETA DISTRIBUTION DEPARTMENT, $1,595.....VIRL BANOWETZ, BANOWETZ ANTIQUES, $1,245.....AND LISA MELLOY, HOSPICE OF JACKSON COUNTY,
$1,200.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL DISTRICT SNOW "MAKE-UP" DAYS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
MONDAY, MARCH 3RD...TUESDAY, MARCH 25TH...AND JUNE 2ND THRU THE 6TH.

KEN MCBRIDE, AGE 74, DIED TUESDAY. HE LIVED IN NEW YORK, BUT WAS A FREQUENT VISITOR TO THE AREA THE LAST FEW YEARS AND A DAUGHTER LIVES IN MAQUOKETA, MARY OLSON, AND A GRANDSON.

THE VOY THEATRE WILL BE 35 YEARS OLD MARCH 21ST. THE PASTIME
THEATRE CLOSED A COUPLE MONTHS EARLIER (1-31-'73) AND WAS TORN DOWN.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE NEW YMCA HAS NOW EXCEEDED 1,000.

THE BANQUET FOR LOCAL AND AREA FIREMEN (AND WIVES) IS TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE LARGE PEARSON MEMORIAL CENTER ON THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA, ORGANIZED BY THE MAQUOKETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
BIG TURNOUT EXPECTED FOR THE STEAK DINNER, WITH STEAKS DONE UP BY THE JACKSON COUNTY CATTLEMEN. GOVERNOR CULVER HAD PLANNED TO ATTEND, BUT HAD TO CANCEL. CONGRESS BRALEY WILL BE A SPECIAL GUEST.
FROM 8 UNTIL MIDNIGHT, AFTER THE STEAK DINNER AND PROGRAM IS OVER,
THERE WILL BE DANCING TO THE POPULAR LOCAL BAND,"JAMMBER"....AND THE DANCE WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AT $5 ADMISSION. PROCEEDS FROM THE DANCE WILL GO TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

MILO BAKER WAS ONE OF THE MANAGERS OF THE CLINTON ENGINES CREDIT
UNION AND LONGTIME SECRETARY WAS MRS. CROUCH. LOTS OF WORK (STOCKHAM & SON) HAS BEEN DONE (THANKS TO SOME GRANT MONEY) THIS PAST WINTER ON REMODELING THE OLD CLINTON ENGINES CORPORATE OFFICE BUILDING IN MAQUOKETA. I'VE BEEN TOLD THE WORK IS CLOSE TO COMPLETION AND THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SET UP DISPLAYS SOON. GENERAL C. MITCHELL (USMC RETIRED) HAS BEEN THE DAILY FORCE BEHIND IT ALL. YES SIR!!! AND HE HAS HAD GOOD SUPPORT FROM ASHER SCHROEDER (PREZ OF HISTORICAL SOCIETY). PLUS, WHILE IN TOWN EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE "UP WITH PEOPLE" GROUP DID SOME PUBLIC SERVICE WORK AT THE CLINTON ENGINES BUILDING. PART OF THE BUILDING WILL INCLUDE A BIG CLINTON ENGINES HISTORICAL DISPLAY.
DON THOMAS WOULD BE HAPPY TO KNOW WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON AND WHAT'S PLANNED. AND NOPE....I HAVE NOT HAD A SNEAK PREVIEW.

THE PEACE PIPE PLAYS ARE PUTTING ON "THE ODD COUPLE" THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER.

AND..COMING TO THE OHNWARD ON SATURDAY NIGHT, MARCH 7TH, EILEEN IVERS, NINE-TIME ALL IRELAND FIDDLE CHAMPION....CALLED THE JIMI HENDRIX OF THE VIOLIN. TICKETS ARE $28 OR $25 IN ADVANCE.
