IN THE ELECTION YESTERDAY. NEIL MOREHEAD WAS RE-ELECTED TO THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL, DEFEATING ED TURNEY,432 TO 405. MARGO SHOUSE WILL BE A NEW COUNCIL MEMBER. SHE GOT 148 VOTES, DEFEATING LEONARD DITCH AND TODD GREEN. DITCH GOT 128 VOTES AND GREEN, 37 VOTES. THE HOTEL-MOTEL TAX INCREASE PASSED, 640 TO 190. TOM MESSERLI WAS RE-ELECTED MAYOR WITH NO BALLOT OPPOSITION, GETTING 571 VOTES. THERE WERE SOME WRITE-IN VOTES FOR MAYOR, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN NAMES OR FIGURES. TWO INCUMBANT COUNCILMEMBERS WERE, LIKE MESSERLI, UNOPPOSED. MATT WINEGAR AND MARSHA MEYERS WERE BOTH RE-ELECTED.
DEWITT LOST THEIR PLAYOFF GAME TO KEOKUK LAST NIGHT, 42 TO 7.
