HE IS INTENDING TO BUY A 220 ACRE FARM FROM CLARENCE AND ELDA HAZER, AND WILL NEED A SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR RACE TRACKS. A PUBLIC MEETING WILL BE MONDAY, JUNE 4TH AT 7 P.M. AT THE COURTHOUSE IN MAQUOKETA. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE A SPECTATOR SPORT RACEWAY, BUT ONE USED BY PRIVATE SPORTS CAR CLUBS FOR THEIR HIGH END RACE CARS, SUCH AS FORMULA ONE AND INDY
CARS. IT WILL BE A 2.5 MILE HARD SURFACE TRACK.
THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AT 1:30 THIS MORNING TO AN ABANDONED FARM HOUSE ON 150TH STREET, OWNED BY RICHARD SCHNOOR. THE HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED. THE FIRE IS SUSPICIOUS ACCORDING TO ASST. FIRE CHIEF AL MUHLHAUSEN. FIREMEN RETURNED TO FIRE STATION ABOUT 4 A.M.
ST. REP. TOM SCHUELLER OF MAQUOKETA WILL GIVE THE MEMORIAL DAY ADDRESS IN MAQUOKETA, MONDAY MORNNG AT 10:30 AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL GYM.
THERE WILL ALSO BE A SPECIAL MEMORIAL SERVICE AT THE G.A.R. MEMORIAL AT MT. HOPE CEMETERY AFTER THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM. THE MAQUOKETA VFW AND LEGION WILL HOST THE EVENTS.
