A MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER, J.T. THOMSON, WAS LEAD ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE EARLY SATURDAY MORNING WHICH RESULTED IN THE SQUAD CAR BEING HIT, BUT NO INJURIES. THOMSON ARRESTED MICHAEL EELS, 28, OF BETTENDORF FOR OWI, ELUDING AN OFFICER AND RECKLESS DRIVING. THE CHASE WAS AROUND 1:20 SATURDAY MORNING AND IN THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF TOWN. THE CHASE ENDED WHEN THE EELS CAR GAVE OUT MECHANICALLY. DAMAGES TO THE EELS CAR, $2000 AND TO THE SQUAD CAR, $4,000.
DICK'S SUPERMARKET IN MAQUOKETA WILL GET A NAME CHANGE ON WEDNESDAY. FRESHBRANDS DISTRIBUTING, OWNER OF DICK'S CHAIN OF STORES, WILL BECOME DICK'S PIGGLY WIGGLY THIS WEEK. AND PRICES ARE TO BE REDUCED ALONG WITH THE NEW NAME.
