RAINY TODAY, HIGH OF 36....THE WARM WEATHER CONTINUES AND WILL UNTIL AT LEAST THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. NO SUNSHINE. NOT VERY NICE, EXCEPT NICE FOR FUEL BILLS, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THE COLD WEATHER EARLIER THIS MONTH.

TAMMY MANG, OF NORTH OLIVE IN MAQUOKETA, REPORTED HER CAR STOLEN CHRISTMAS DAY.
YESTERDAY, IT WAS RECOVERED SITTING ON THE STREET IN HEARTLAND TRAILER COURT.

THE MAQUOKETA HIGH CLASSES OF 1985 AND 1986 ARE HAVING A JOINT 20-YEAR CLASS RE-UNION NEW YEAR'S EVE IN MAQUOKETA. INTERESTING IDEA.

THE MAQUOKETA RESCUE SQUAD HAS A NEW TRUCK. IT IS LARGER AND CARRIES MORE PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT. PERSONNEL NO LONGER CAN RIDE IN THE BACK AND MUST WEAR SEAT BELTS. THE TRUCK IS A DIFFERENT DESIGN AND LOOKS MORE LIKE A BIG-BOX STYLE.
IT COST $247,000 AND A 10-YEAR $125,000 LOAN WILL BE PAID OFF IN 10 YEARS. THE OLD RESCUE TRUCK WAS SOLD FOR $71,000 TO GO TOWARD THE NEW ONE, PLUS ALLIANCE PIPLINE GAVE $20,000 AND THE MAQUOKETA AREA FOUNDATION $10,000.

JERRY ROLLINGER, AGE 65, A MCHS 1959 GRAD AND A LONGTIME RESIDENT OF ANAMOSA, DIED AFTER A SUDDEN HEART ATTACK. HIS FUNERAL WILL BE NEXT TUESDAY IN ANAMOSA. HE WAS RETIRED FROM ROCKWELL COLLINS, WHERE HE WORKED AFTER 4-YEARS IN THE AIRFORCE. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE JOY (MERRICK), TWO DAUGHTERS, 3 GRANDCHILDREN, THREE SISTERS AND A BROTHER, JOE OF MAQUOKETA.

THE GANNON CENTER FOR COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH BOARD HELD A MEETING YESTERDAY TO FURTHER DISCUSS THE PLIGHT OF THE CENTER. JACKSON COUNTY'S FIVE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD MET AT THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OFFICE AND TOOK PART IN THE MEETING BY CONFERENCE CALL.
THE BOARD SPENT SOME TIME DISCUSSING OPTIONS IN LIGHT OF INADEQUATE FUNDING BEING RECEIVED FROM DUBUQUE AND JACKSON COUNTIES. THE GANNON CENTER THIS YEAR CLOSED THEIR ANDREW-JACKSON CARE CENTER NORTH OF ANDREW AND HAVE AN OFFICE IN MAQUOKETA, IN THE BUILDING THAT FOR MANY YEARS WAS ROSENBERG AUTO SUPPLY. IF GANNON WOULD EVER CEASE TO EXIST, THERE WOULD BE A REAL PROBLEM FOR DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH IN JACKSON COUNTY.

GOT UP INTO THE UPPER 30'S TODAY.....SOME SNOW AND ICE MELTED.
LOOKS LIKE MAQUOKETA WILL GOT SOME SNOW CHRISTMAS EVE....GOOD CHANCE. NO SNOW CHRISTMAS DAY.

THE MAQUOKETA WRESTLERS HOST DAVENPORT TONIGHT AND DR. PAUL KOOB AND LEIGHTON HEPKER WILL BROADCAST THE MATCHES ON KMAQ-AM. ON FM TONIGHT, WE HAVE THE IOWA HAWKEYE MEN'S GAME.

THERE HAS BEEN LITTLE TALK ABOUT THE SUPER WAL MART IN MAQUOKETA FOR WEEKS. LAST NIGHT, THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS HELD AT JOINT 90-MINUTE MEETING WITH A WAL MART ENGINEER. EVERYTHING IS STILL GO TO START CONSTRUCTION OF THE $8-MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IN THE SPRING, AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE CITY.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS LOST TO WEST DELAWARE LAST NIGHT BY 2 POINTS.
AND THE MAQUOKETA BOYS ALSO LOST BY TWO TO WEST DELAWARE UP AT MANCHESTER.

THE SUPERVISORS APPROVED YESTERDAY, BUYING NEW VOTING MACHINES FOR JACKSON COUNTY.
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS PROVIDING $152,680 AND THE COUNTY PAYS THE BALANCE OF
$33,401. SUPERVISOR KOOS SAID ITS ANOTHER BILL THE COUNTY DIDN'T NEED. SUPERVISOR WILLEY ALSO SAID THE COUNTY HAS PERFECTLY GOOD MACHINES NOW AND THEY WORK PERFECTLY.
BUT, THE DON'T MEET THE NEW STANDARDS. BIGGER IN POPULATION CLINTON COUNTY WILL HAVE TO COME UP WITH $178,000 FOR THEIR SHARE AND HAVE NOT DECIDED WEHRE THE MONEY WILL COME FROM. ALL THIS BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS IN FLORIDA DURING THE LAST PRESEDENTIAL ELECTION.

MAQUOKETA RESCUE SQUAD MEMBERS HAD TO EXTRICATE A MAQUOKETA MAN FROM HIS VEHICLE YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER HE ROLLED THE VEHICLE. PATER ADA, AGE 27, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH DRUNK DRIVING. THE ONE-CAR ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY 61 A HALF-MILE SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA. THE 98 FORD ESCORT WAS TOTALLED AND ADA WAS TREATED AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR MINOR INJURIES.

A RURAL MAQUOKETA HOME WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY FIRE YESTERDAY MORNING AROUND 11:30, ON 74TH STREET NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA OFF THE CAVES ROAD. THE HOME WAS OWNED BY LAWRENCE RILEY AND RENTED BY BILL STETLER. MAY HAVE STARTED BY A WOOD BURNING STOVE.
NO ONE INJURED. FIRE CHEIF MARK B ECK SAID 19 FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED THE BLAZE FOR A COUPLE HOURS.

WINTER CONTINUES. 1/4 INCH OF SNOW YESTERDAY, A LITTLE OVERNIGHT, AND SNOW FLURRIES ON AND OFF TODAY.

A $3-MILLION DOLLAR BINGO PARLOR IS BEING PROPOSED FOR THE FORMER SAVANNA ARMY DEPOT, BY THE SAC AND FOX INDIAN NATION.

TWO TEENAGERS WERE CHARGED WITH BREAKING INTO SUNSHINE PRE-SCHOOL
ON NOV. 24TH. THEY ARE IN CUSTODY OF THEIR PARENTS AND A PRE-TRIAL HEARING IS SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 22ND.

AFTER SPENDING 18 1/2 YEARS AS DIRECTOR OF THE LITTLE SHEPHERD CHRISTIAN PRE-SCHOOL AT THE FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA, CINDY HECK HAS ANNOUNCED HER PLANS TO LEAVE THE POST AND WILL BECOME EMPLOYED BY EAST CENTRAL TRAIN AS A HOME DAY CARE CONSULTANT.

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD THIS WEEK GOT A LOOK AT SOME INITIAL COST ESTMATES FOR A PROPOSED NEW 1600-CAPACITY GYM AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH
SCHOOL. THE PROJECT WOULD ALSO INCLUDE A NEW WRESTLING AND WEIGHT ROOM, LOCKER ROOMS, A COMMONS AREA AND CAFETERIA. THE COST?
AROUND $5-MILLION DOLLARS. THE MONEY WOULD COME FROM THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX.

IVARS ILGIS, AGE 63, DIED DECEMBER 8TH IN HERNANDO, FLORIDA. PRIVATE SERVICES WILL BE HELD. HE WAS A FORMER RESIDENT OF MAQUOKETA AND
OPERATED SEVERAL BUSINESSES, INCLUDING A ROOFING COMPANY AND

MAQUOKETA WILL BE UNDER A SNOW EMERGENCY STARTING AT 6 TONIGHT.

JOHN REGAN, OWNER OF RCS COMPUTERS IN MAQUOKETA, HAS PURCHASED A-1 APPLIANCE IN MAQUOKETA, FROM ARNOLD KORANDA. ARNOLD HAS RUN THE STORE FOR 31 YEARS AND HE AND HIS WIFE SUE HAVE MOVED TO FLORIDA.

CASEY STEWART, BILLY KIRK, ADAM KOPPES AND DAN DUHME.

A RURAL CHARLOTTE MAN, JOSHUA KACZINSKI, AGEG 22, FACES 3 CHARGES AFTER HE WAS INVOLVED IN A ONE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT 1:30 YESTERDAY MORNING IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. HIS CAR FIRST HIT A BUSH IN FRONT OF THE NEW FARM BUREAU BUILDING ON THE CORNER OF PLATT AND OTTO AND THEN STRUCK A UTILITY POLE. HE WAS NOT INJURED. HE WILL BE CITED FOR OWI, FAILING TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND HAVING NO INSURANCE.

A MAQUOKETA MAN, ARDELL FELLER, AGE 67, WAS SIGHTED BY MAQUOKETA POLICE ON TWO COUNTS OF HARBORING A BARKING DOG.....IN FACT, HE HAD 3 BARKING DOGS AT HIS RESIDENCE AND WILL PAY OVER $190 IN FINES.

MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MEETS TONIGHT.

SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR DR. PHILLIP ROUND, AGE 62, A LAS VEGAS CHIROPRACTOR. HE DIED FRIDAY AT LAS VEGAS. A WELTON MAN, WAS KILLED IN A TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON JUST WEST OF CALAMUS ON A SNOW-COVERED ROAD. JEFFREY BURMEISTER, 37, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE HOSPTIAL IN DEWITT.

A BUNCH OF OTHER ACCIDENTS THE LAST COUPLE DAYS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER.

ERIC AND KIM BOWLING OF MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A BOY BORN LAST SATURDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. GRANDPARENTS ARE TOM AND MARTHA

IT HAS BEEN SNOWING IN MAQUOKETA SINCE LATE THIS MORNING.
ABOUT 4 INCHES AND STILL COMING DOWN AT 3:30 P.M.

MAQUKETA CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNER RECEIVED A 3 AND1/2 PERCENT MERIT RAISE THIS WEEK. THIS HIS SECOND THIS YEAR. IN JULY, HE GOT A 3% RAISE ALONG WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES. HE GOES TO $78,218. HIS RAISE CAME ON A UNAMINOUS VOTE OF THE COUNCIL.

THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MINISTER, MEL VALDEZ, HAS ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION. HIS LAST DAY OF WORK WILL BE DEC. 31ST. HE HAS BEEN WITH THE CHUCH 2 1/2 YEARS AND IN HIS LETTER OF RESIGNATION, SENT TO MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH, HE CITED HIS AND HIS WIFE'S HEALTH PROBLEMS.
HE HAS SERVED THE METHODIST CHURCH FOR 30 YEARS, INCLUDING 17 YEARS AS AN ARMY CHAPLAIN.

LAURA ELSNER, 83, OF DUBUQUE, DIED TODAY. SURVIVORS INCLUDE A SISTER, THERESA HANKEMEIER OF MAQUOKETA.

THE MAQUOKETA BOYS DEFEATED WESTERN DUBUQUE LAST NIGHT BY ONE POINT, A LAST MINUTE BASKET BY LUKE PATTERSON. AND HERE IN TOWN, THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS ALSO BEAT WESTERN DUBUQUE BY 10
POINTS.

YESTERDAY MORNING, A VEHICLE HIT A BRIDGE BECAUSE OF ICE CONDITIONS. BARBARA KEMP, AGE 43, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 61 AND AS SHE CROSSED THE MAQUOKETA RIVER BRIDGE, HER VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE ON SOME ICE AND HIT THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE BRIDGE, RESULTING IN $2,500 DAMAGE TO HER 2003 CHEVY TRUCK. NO INJURIES.

MAQUOKETA GOT 3 INCHES OF SNOW OVER THE WEEKEND AND 5-INCHES SO FAR THIS MONTH.

IT WAS 4-BELOW THIS MORNING AND MORE OF THE SAME IS COMING ALL THIS WEEK.

THE MAQUOKETA BOYS LOST BY 1 POINT FRIDAY NIGHT AND THEIR RECORD IS NOW 0 AND 2.

THE GIRLS ALSO LOST FRIDAY NIGHT...AND THE WRESTLERS FINISHED 6TH IN THE INDEPENDENCE
TOURNAMENT SATURDAY.

FORMER MAQUOKETA AND IOWA STATE GRAD, QUARTERBACK SAGE ROSENFELS GUIDED THE MIAMI DOLPHINS TO A 24 TO 23 COME FROM BEHIND WIN OVER THE BUFFALO BILLS YESTERDAY IN MIAMI. HE THREW A PASS WITH 6 SECONDS LEFT TO SCORE THE WINNING TOUCHDOWN. IT WAS THE LAST OF 3 TOUCHDOWNS SCORED IN THE FINAL 11 MINUTES OF THE GAME AND SAGE DIRECTED ALL 3 TOUCHDOWN DRIVES.
A GREAT DAY FOR SAGE AFTER HE REPLACED THE REGULAR QUARTERBACK. SIXTY THOUSAND FANS ATTENDED THE GAME, BUT ONLY TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND STAYED TO SEE THE BIG WIN.

A MILES, IOWA MAN (MERVIN HANSON, JR., AGE 37) WAS KILLED AND SIX OTHERS INJURED IN A NEARLYH HEAD-ON ACCIDENT LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON JUST SOUTH OF MILES.

RICHARD ALLEN, 36, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS IN A BAD ACCIDENT LAST WEDNESDAY MORNING. NO CONDITION REPORT AVAILABLE. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY 61 AND HIS CAR RECEIVED NEARLY $10,000 IN DAMAGES AND A GAURDRAIL HE HIT RECEIVED $3,500 IN DAMAGES.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.

ABOUT 1,000 SAW THE PRODUCTION OF THE "NUTCRACKER" SATURDAY AT THE NEW OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER.....AN AFTERNOON AND EVENING PEFORMANCE, WITH NET PROCEEDS GOING TO SUNSHINE PRE-SCHOOL AND DAYCARE. DIDN'T SEE IT, BUT HEAR IT WAS A GREAT SHOW.

AND YESTERDAY, A BRANSON COUNTRY SHOW WAS HELD AT ONHWARD, AGAIN AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND GOOD TURNOUT FOR IT AND I'M TOLD, AN EXCELLENT SHOW.

THE OHNWARD CENTER IS GETTING LOTS OF SHOWS AND GOOD COMMENTS ON THEM. A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR TOWN. ITS SEATS AROUND 840.
