THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD VOTED TO PUT THE PHYSICAL PLANT AND EQUIPMENT LEVY ON THE SEPTEMBER BALLOT, TO RENEW IT FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS. THE LEVY IS NOT NEW AND LAST YEAR BROUGHT IN ABOUT $273,000 FOR THE DISTRICT. AMONG OTHERS THINGS, IT HAS ALLOWED THE DISTRICT TO GET BACK ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE OF BUYING SCHOOL BUSES.
THE BOARD ALSO VOTED TO ALLOW ANDREW STUDENTS TO ATTEND VOCATIONAL CLASSES HERE IN MAQUOKETA, AT A FEE OF $340 PER CLASS, PER SEMESTER. ABOUT 10 TO 15 STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO COME TO MAQUOKETA TO TAKE AG CLASSES. ANDREW WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTATION.
BETTY MILLER, 77 AND NANCY MOORE, 50, BOTH OF MAQUOKETA WERE IN A MINOR TWO CAR ACCIDENT AT 8:30 THIS MORNING ON EAST PLATT AND OLIVE STREETS. MILLER WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY. NO INJURIES. THE MILLER CAR HAD $2,500 IN DAMAGES AND THE MOORE CAR, ABOUOT $4,000 IN DAMAGES.
IN COURT NEWS, SHAUN TANNER, AGE 47, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED WITH OWI. ARRESTED LAST NIGHT ON WESTERN AVENUE.
LACY AND MITCH BOCK OF WARSAW, ILLINOIS, HAD A GIRL LAST THURSDAY AT A HOSPITAL IN CARTHAGE, ILLINOIS. GRANDPARENTS ARE LANA ALLEN AND STEVE ALLEN OF MAQUOKETA.
NANCY SHAW, 63, OF CAMANCHE, DIED YESTERDAY AT HER HOME. SHE WAS BORN IN MAQUOKETA, DAUGHTER OF RICHARD AND BEULA JENSEN. SHE WAS A BEAUTICIAN.
MARVIN WAGNER, 66, OF PRESTON, DIED TODAY AT A HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE. SURVIVORS INCLUDE
HIS WIFE, A STEPSON, 3 SISTERS, INCLUDING ARMELLA ILG OF MAQUOKETA AND EILEEN PRINDLE OF MAQUOKETA, AND THREE BROTHERS, INCLUDING NORBERT OF MAQUOKETA.
