4/100 OF AN INCH OF RAIN YESTERDAY.....JUNE TOTAL SO FAR, 6/10....TERRIBLE. LAST JUNE, WE HAD OVER 7 INCHES. HOT AGAIN TODAY.

DR. PAUL BROWN AND WIFE DORIS ARRIVED IN MAQUOKETA 50 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK. THEY WERE ON "JUST TALK" MONDAY TO TALK ABOUT THEIR ARRIVAL IN MAQUOKETA THEN AND THE EARLY DAYS OF BEING A DOCTOR AND RAISING A FAMILY. AND ON THE SHOW, THEY ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WILL MOVE FROM MAQUOKETA AT THE END OF THIS MONTH, TO FORT DODGE WHERE A DAUGTHER LIVES.
BOTH ARE WELL AND LOOK GREAT. THEIR LARGE HOUSE HAS BEEN FOR SALE FOR SOME TIME.
PAUL HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF ROTARY FOR OVER 40 YEARS, WAS A FORMER MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCILMAN, AND HAS BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN THE METHODIST CHURCH, MANY TIMES PREACHING THE SUNDAY SERMON WHEN THE MINISTER COULD NOT BE THERE. ALL OF HIS YEARS, HE WAS IN WITH DR. J.A. BROMAN IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE, FIRST DOWNTOWN AND LATER IN A MODERN NEW BUILDING THEY OWNED ON WEST PLATT STREET. HE (AND DORIS) HAVE SERVED OUR COMMUNITY WELL AND WILL BE MISSED. I WISH THEM THE BEST AT THEIR NEW HOME. PAUL WAS ONE OF THE MAQUOKETA CITIZENS OF THE WEEK AND YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT HIM AT
www.maquoketa-rotary.org

STOP SIGNS ARE SCHEDULED TO BE ADDED NEAR THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND SOME TRAFFIC LIGHTS MAY BE REMOVED IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. BY THE HIGH SCHOOL, AT INTERSECTION OF SOUTH 5TH AND WASHINGTON STREETS...TO SLOW DOWN THE TRAFFIC IN AREA. THE SIGNS WOULD ALSO MAKE IT EASIER TO CROSS THE STREET TO FOLLOW THE SIDEWALK. DOWNTOWN, THE LIGHTS AT OLIVE AND PLATT STREETS MAY COME DOWN. THE OLD ARE IN BAD SHAPE AND IT IS THOUGH THE LIGHT CAUSES A BOTTLENECK IN THE AREA RATHER THAN HELP THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. AN ENGINEER ALSO SAID THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TRAFFIC TO WARRANT A STOP LIGHT. MAQUOKETA WILL HAVE TO GET IDOT APPROVAL ON THEIR PLANS.

THE BIG 3-NIGHT JACKSON COUNTY PRO-RODEO STARTS TONIGHT AT THE HORSEMAN'S GROUNDS NEAR BELLEVUE.

ARTHUR GOEPFERT, AGE 94, OF MAQUOKEKETA, DIED WEDNESDAY AT CRESTRIDGE NURSING HOME.
HE WAS A FARMER ALL HIS LIFE AND YOU CAN READ HIS OBITUARY AT
www.carsonandson.com

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM WON A DOUBLE-HEADER LAST NIGHT OVER DYERSVILLE
BECKMAN. THE GIRLS SO FAR ARE DOING BETTER THAN THE CARDINAL BOYS.

THANKS FOR ANOTHER VISIT.
