WINDY AND COLD YESTERDAY.....MOSTLY CLOUDY AND A LITTLE WARMER TODAY. HIGH IN THE 60'S TODAY BUT 70-PLUS IS COMING THIS WEEK.

SARA O'MEARA CROMER, WHO LIVES AT THE WESTWING PLACE IN DEWITT, IS CELEBRATING HER 107TH BIRTHDAY TODAY. SHE LIVED IN THE DELMAR AND DEWITT AREA MOST OF HER LIFE.
TWO OF HER 5 CHILDREN ARE STILL LIVING, INCLUDING MRS. DON (BETTY) HENNINGSEN OF MAQUOKETA. DON AND BETTY JUST RETURNED HOME LAST WEEK FROM WINTERING DOWN IN FLORIDA.

ASHER SCHROEDER OF MAQUOKETA CELEBRATED HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON (BORN MAY 12, 1925) WITH AN OPEN HOUSE IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM OF THE NEW "HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER". ASHER, A RETIRED (1987) ATTORNEY, IS VERY ACTIVE AS A VOLUNTEER IN MAQUOKETA. HE'S ON THE MAQUOKETA AREA FOUNDATION BOARD, THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY BOARD AND IS PRESIDENT OF THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. HIS WIFE (CATHERINE) DIED ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO. HE HAS 3 SONS. HE WAS A WORLD WAR 2 POW IN GERMANY.

ANOTHER EX-KMAQ EMPLOYEE IS DOING WELL IN THE BUSINESS WORLD. CHRIS AGNITSCH HAS ACCEPTED APPOINTMENT AS PRESIDENT (CEO) OF THE LANCASTER (OHIO) FAIRFIELD COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND STARTS JUNE 1ST. HE HAS BEEN WITH THE ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS CHAMBER. HE WAS A PART-TIME ANNOUCER FOR KMAQ WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND GRADUATED FROM NORTHESTERN UNIVERSITY IN EVANSTON, ILLINOIS. HIS WIFE IS AMY. DAN AND GRETCHEN MURRAY OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA, HAD A BOY LAST WEDNESDAY IN MESA. GREAT GRANDMOTHER IS GLADYS (SCHNOOR) DERGANZ OF MAQUOKETA.

DWAINE AND TESSIE BURKEN OF BALDWIN ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN MAY 6TH AT OUR HOSPITAL.
GRANDPARENTS ARE AL AND JULIE THOLE OF MAQUOKETA. GREAT GRANDPARENTS ARE HOWARD AND NORMA JOHNSON OF MAQUOKETA.

52 PEOPLE GAVE BLOOD LAST WEEK IN MAQUOKETA. 11 GAVE TWO UNITS AT THE SAME TIME.
THE LEGION AUXILIARY SPONSORED THE DRIVE AGAIN.

DIXIE MILLER, AGE 74, OF MONMOUTH, DIED LAST NIGHT AT OUR HOSPITAL, AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. SHE AND HUBAND FORREST ARE WELL KNOWN IN AREA FOR HAVING TEAMS OF HORSES THAT GAVE WAGON RIDES AT LOCAL EVENTS OVER THE YEARS. HER OBITUARY IS AT www.carsonandson.com

RAN INTO JON AND CHRIS JENSEN AT COFFEE THIS MORNING. JON WAS HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS. NOW RETIRED AND LIVES IN CLEAR LAKE AND IN ARIZONA DURING THE WINTER. BOTH LOOKED GOOD.

A DELMAR MAN WAS TAKEN TO UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IN IOWA CITY LAST NIGHT AFTER HIS TRACTOR PINNED HIM. RANDY BUDDE, AGE 41, WAS OPERATING THE TRACTOR IN RURAL BELLEVUE WHEN THE TRACTOR OVERTURNED AND HE WAS TRAPPED UNDER IT. HIS INJURIES ARE NOT BELIEVED TO BE SERIOUS.

JOSH IHRIG OF MAQUOKETA, 23, LEFT HIS STALLED VEHICLE ON 53RD AVENUE SOUTHEAST OF BALDWIN YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, TO GET A TOW TRUCK AND WHILE HE WAS GONE, SOMEONE HIT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND PUSHED IT INTO THE DITCH WHERE IT HIT A TREE STUMP, CAUSING $5,000 IN DAMAGE.
THE OTHER DRIVER LEFT THE SCENE.

WEEKEND POLICE BLOTTER:
HELEN RICKLIFS ON SOUTH MAIN SAID SOMEONE TOOK ABOUT $130 FROM HER PURSE.
DWAYNE GREEN OF PERSHING ROAD SAID SOMEONE ENTERED HIS UNLOCKED MOBILE HOME AND TOOK $40 FROM A DRESSER DRAWER.
EBERHART FARM CENTER ON EAST MAPLE SAID SOMEONE TAMPERED WITH FOUR ANHYDROUS AMMONIA TANKS SUNDAY.
SUNSHINE PRE-SCHOOL REPORTED A WINDOW BROKEN.
AND RYAN GERISCHER ON 5TH STREET SAID SOMEONE VANDALIZED HIS YARD LIGHTS FRIDAY NIGHT.

A MEMORIAL TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MURIEL ALLAN WILL BE CONDUCTED THIS SATURDY BY THE LOCAL VFW, AT HORSESHOE POND PARK. THE CERMONY WILL BE AT 1 AM AT THE CITIDEL BUILDING AT THE PARK JUST SOUTH OF MAQUOEKTA. A PLAQUE WILL BE PLACED NEXT TO THE FLAG POLE THERE. CO-SPONSORING THE EVENT, BOY SCOUT TROOP 68. THE TROOP HAD PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED THE FLAG IN HONOR OF MURIAL. SHE WAS A VERY PATRIOTIC PERSON AND WAS A VERY ACTIVE VFW MEMEBER.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT.

PAT COSTELLO, OWNER OF COSTELLO OLD MILL ART GALLERY WAS ON KWQC-TV SATURDAY MORNING, ON FRAN RILEY'S INTERVIEW SHOW, AND TOLD ABOUT TOURISM PLACES IN AND AROUND JACKSON COUNTY.
MAY IS TOURISM MONTH. THE 1ST ANNUAL TOURISM DINNER IS THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AT HORIZON HALL IN BELLEVUE, STARTING AT 6 AND ANYONE MAY ATTEND. TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR AND THE GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE THE FOUNDER OF THE FAMOUS "IOWA MACHINE SHED" RESTAURANT.
