SUNNY, BUT WINDY AND COLD TODAY...HIGH ONLY IN 30'S.

MYRTLE WATTERS, 85, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED LAST NIGHT. SHE FARMED WITH HUSBAND AND WORKED IN SEVERAL JOBS DURING HER LIFE. SURIVIVORS INCLUDE
DAUGHTER DONNA FELTES OF MAQUOKETA AND DAUGHTER JANET WOOD OF MAQUOKETA, 6 GRANDCHILDREN, 2 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A BROTHER AND 3 SISTERS.

BLANCHE STOCKHAM-FREYTAG, AGE 86, OF LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS, DIED FEBRUARY 9TH. SHE IS SURVIVED BY 3 CHILDREN, 8 GRANDCHILDREN, 5 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN AND HER BROTHER, BOB STOCKHAM OF MAQUOKETA.

ADAM HEPKER OF MAQUOKETA (SON OF KMAQ'S LEIGHTON HEPKER AND WIFE CINDY) IS A FRESHMAN AT MID AMERICA UNIVERSITY AND IS THE STARTING POINT- GUARD FOR THE BASKETBALL TEAM....WHICH IS CURRENTLY 2ND IN THE CONFERENCE AND HAS WON 20 GAMES SO FAR. ADAM LAST WEEK WAS NAMED THE CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK. REALLY SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY FOR A FRESHMAN. LAST WEEK IN ONE GAME HE SCORED A SEASON-HIGH 22 POINTS AND IN ANOTHER OF THEIR 3 VICTORIES LAST WEEK, HE SCORED THE WINNING POINT IN DOUBLE OVERTIME. HIS COACH IS FORMER MAQUOKETAN ROCKY LAMAAR.

THE NEW TRAVEL MART CONVENIENCE BUILDING IS GOING UP FAST SOUTH OF TOWN BY THE NEW MOTEL. IT WILL INCLUDE A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT NOT YET ANNOUNCED. IT'S A BRIAN KONRARDY PROJECT.....BRIAN A LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN. HE HAS A TANNING STORE DOWNTOWN, IN A BUILDING HE OWNS NEXT TO USBANK. YEARS AGO HE OWNED "FIFE'S BAR & RESTAURANT" ON EAST PLATT AND HIS WIFE SUE, IS A LONGTIME BEAUTICIAN HERE IN TOWN.
