RAINY ALL DAY...HIGH 49. TOMORROW, NOT MUCH BETTER WEATHER EXPECTED.

TOMORROW, ELECTION DAY, WE HAVE SEVERAL LOCAL RACES. FOR ST. REPRESENTATIVE TO REPLACE RETIRING BOB OSTERHAUS, THE DEMOCRAT IS TOM SCHUELLER AND THE REPUBLICAN IS PAUL CARSTENSEN. FOR COUNTY AUDITOR, REPUBLICAN INCUMBANT MIKE COTTON IS OPPOSED BY DEMOCRAT M. JOELL DELPPE. FOR SHERIFF, SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN, DEMOCRAT, IS OPPOSED BY
RETIRED FORMER DEPUTY, DICK WARD, RUNNING AS AN INDEPENDANT. FOR SUPERVIOR, REPUBLICAN DAVE KENDALL RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION, IS BEING OPPOSED BY LARRY "BUCK" KOOS.

POLICE BLOTTER: VERL HOWELL AT 111 NORTH VERMONT SAID SOMEONE TOOK A LEAF BLOWER, SNOWBLOWER, AND SOME OTHER ITEMS FROM HIS GARAGE OVER THE WEEKEND. AND THE DUMPSTER WAS AGAIN TIPPED OVER AT CARDINAL SCHOOL.

COURT NEWS: JEFFREY CHARLES BUEGE, 37, OF MAQUOKETA, RECEIVED A DEFERRED JUDGEMENT ON CHARGES OF OWI.
DAVID KEMP, 36, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS IN PRISON ON CHARGES OF OWI, 3RD OFFENSE.

MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT.

A BIRTH: SHAWN AND AMY MANNING OF RURAL MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A BOY BORN MONDAY, OCT 25TH AT FINELY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE. GRANDMOTHER IS KATHY CARNER OF MAQUOKETA AND GRANDPARENTS TOO ARE STEVE AND CHERYL MANNING OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.

SYLVIA DAEHLER, 83, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SUNDAY AT DAVENPORT HOSPITAL. SHE DID BABYSITTING AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE LEGION AUXILIARY. SHE IS SURVIVED BY 5 CHILDREN, INCLUDING DORIS JOHNSON OF MAQUOKETA, JIM OF MAQUOKETA AND DON OF MAQUOKETA.
ALSO 18 GRANDCHILDREN.

ANNABELLE HOFFMAN, 87, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SUNDAY AT THE MAQUOKETA CARE CENTER.
SHE ASSISTED HER LATE HUSBAND LOWEL IN HIS BUSINESS OF HOFFMAN EGGS. THEY LIKED FLYING THEIR OWN PLANE AND SHE WAS PROUD THAT SHE FIRST FLEW SOLO AFTER BECOMING A GRANDMOTHER. SHE IS SURVIVED BY DAUGHTER SHARON RETTIG OF MAQUOKETA AND SON FRED OF DULUTH, GEORGIA AND ALSO SHARON MERZ OF SOUTH CAROLINA WHO SHE AND LOWELL RAISED.
