ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY IN MAQUOKETA.

MAQUOKETA WILL HOST MT. VERNON IN FOOTBALL TONIGHT. MAQUOKETA IS 1 AND 1 AND THEY ARE 0 AND 2. THE WERE IN THE STATE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR, BUT LOST KEY MEN.

A FORMER MAQUOKETA WOMAN HAS DIED OF INJURIES SHE RECEIVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN IOWA CITY ON SUNDAY. SUSAN ROTMAN, AGE 52, DIED YESTERDAY AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IN IOWA CITY.
SHE HAS HAD TO USE A WHEELCHAIR ALL HER LIFE AND WAS IN HER WHEELCHAIR WHEN SHE WAS HIT BY A CAR AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO CROSS A STREET IN IOWA CITY, AT 6:53 SUNDAY NIGHT. A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY JACOB CONNOR, AGE 19, OF IOWA CITY, HIT ROTMAN AND KNOCKED HER OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR, CAUSING HER TO HIT HER HEAD. NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST CONNER. A PUBLIC VISITATION WILL BE HELD FROM 4-6 P.M. MONDAY AT THE CARSON FUNERAL HOME HERE IN MAQUOKETA. THERE WILL BE A PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICE. SHE GRADUATED IN 1970 FROM MCHS AND THEN ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AND RECEIVED A BS AND MASTERS DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY AND COUNSELING.
SHE WAS INTERESTED IN SOCIAL JUSTICE AND DOING VOLUNTEER WORK. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HER FATHER AND STEP-MOTHER, CARL AND LINDA ROTMAN OF MAQUKETA, A BROTHER, ROB OF CHICAGO AND A STEP-SISTER, ANNE OF OMAHA.

JACKSON COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN AUGUST WAS 5.1 PERCENT, AN INCREASE FROM 4.8 PERCENT IN JULY.

A FORMER MAQUKETA BANKER, JERRY MAPLES, OF FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA, HAS WRITTEN HIS FIRST NOVEL, "DIVINE MISGUIDANCE".
