IT RAINED SATURDAY, UNTIL MID AFTERNOON. SUNDAY, A PERFECT DAY AND TODAY NOT BAD EITHER, WITH A HIGH OF 82.

SATURDAY, THE MAQUOKETA FFA MEATS EVALUATION TEAM WENT TO THE STATE MEET AT AMES AND DID VERY WELL, TAKING 4TH PLACE IN THE STATE (OUT OF 23 TEAMS) AND GETTING A GOLD RANKING.
ON THE TEAM, SLOAN FELTEN, JEREMY SPAIN, DUSTIN SCHAU AND DREW BURMAHL.
ALSO SATURDAY AT AMES, THE LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM WAS CROWNED "THE STATE CHAMPION BEEF TEAM". ON THE MAQUOKETA FFA LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM...CRYSTAL WATTERS, JENNIFER LYONS, ZACH KINRADE AND BRANDT WILMS.
BOTH TEAMS ARE COACHED BY GARY BRUNS. NICE JOB AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 8 FFA MEMBERS AND COACH GARY. THE LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM WILL NOW TAKE A SHORT BREAK AND THEN START TO PREPARE FOR LATE FALL AND EARLY WINTER JUDGING.

THE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO AN ANHYDROUS AMMONIA LEAK AT 8:20 SUNDAY NIGHT AT EBERHART FARM CENTER IN MAQUOKETA...ON EAST MAPLE STREET. A TANK HAD A MINOR LEAK WHICH CAUSED A SMAL VAPOR CLOUD IN THE AREA. THE CLOUD DISSIPATED QUICKLY AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

FIVE MEN CELEBRATING A BACHELOR PARTY ENDED UP IN JAIL SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER A FIGHT BROKE OUT AT SHAKER'S PERFORMING ARTS CENTER NEAR LAMOTTE. THEY WERE FROM GUTTENBERG, CEDAR RAPIDS AND IOWA CITY. THE GROOM ALLEGEDLY GRABBED AT SOME DANCERS AND THE FIGHT STARTED.

A GIRL WAS BORN LAST FRIDAY MORNING AT ST. LUKES IN CEDAR RAPIDS TO MATT AND ALICIA HAYES OF FAIRFAX. GRANDPARENTS ARE DAVID AND DARLENE HAYES OF MAQUOKETA AND GREAT GRAND PARENTS ARE LOLA HAYES AND MARV AND HELEN BRADY, ALL OF MAQUOKETA.

SERVICES ARE PENDING AT LAHEY FUNERAL HOME IN MAQUOKETA FOR BONITA BERTSCH, 88, OF MAQUOKETA. SHE DIED THIS MORNING AT FINLEY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE.
