A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN MAQUOKETA....SUNNY....NO HUMIDITY....HIGH OF 72 WITH A LIGHT BREEZE. I RAN INTO A LADY DOWNTOWN AND SHE SAID....."ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10...TODAY IS A 15.

CHECK THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER WEB SITE FOR SOME GREAT PICTURES OF THE RAGBRAI EVENT IN MAQUOKETA TWO WEEKS AGO. TAKEN BY DAVE UPDEGRAPH. www.maquoketachamber.com
LOTS OF OTHER THINGS TO READ ON THAT WEB SITE TOO, INCLUDING CHAMBER NEWSLETTERS.

I WENT OUT TO THE NEW HURSTVILLE INTREPRETIVE CENTER TODAY AND GOT A TOUR BY
NATURALIST ANN BURNS OF MAQUOKETA. A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING. THE DEDICATION AND OPEN HOUSE IS A WEEK FROM TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AND WE WILL BE COVERING IT "LIVE" ON KMAQ. I TOOK MY NEW VERY SMALL PANOSONIC DIGITAL AUDIO, VIDEO AND STILL CAMERA AND TOOK SOME PICTURES. THERE ARE TWO PICTURES OF THE CENTER ON DENNIS' DAILY PHOTOS ON THE KMAQ HOME PAGE. THE ONE OF DARYL PARKER OF BELLEVUE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WAS TAKEN BY ME, AND IT ISN'T THE BEST. I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THE CAMERA YET, AND THE PICTURE PROVES IT. THE CAMERA TAKES MUCH BETTER PHOTOS...BUT DECIDED TO PUT THE PICTURE UP ANYWAY. IT IS OF DARYL ON THE WALKWAY JUST BEFORE THE MAIN ENTRANCE. ANOTHER PICTURE, TAKEN BY DAVE VOY, IS ALSO THERE. MUCH MORE HAS BEEN DONE SINCE THAT ONE WAS TAKEN. ANYWAY, I KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG WITH THE CAMERA. WE WILL BE PUTTING UP QUITE A FEW PICTURES THAT I'LL TAKE AT THE OPEN HOUSE. ALSO, ANN BURNS WILL BE NEXT WEEK'S ROTARY "CITIZEN OF THE WEEK" AND I'LL HAVE A PICTURE OF HER AND STORY ON THE ROTARY WEB SITE ON MONDAY. THE BUILDING IS GOING TO BE TERRIFIC FOR MAQUOKETA IN MANY WAYS. MORE ABOUT IT NEXT WEEK ......AND THE NEXT TIME YOU COME TO MAQUOKETA, BE SURE ON MAKE PLANS TO TAKE A TOUR OF IT. IT WILL ALSO BE MAQUOKETA'S NEW TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER.

A BAD ACCIDENT SOUTH OF WELTON LAST NIGHT, THANKFULLY, NO FATALITY AND NO ONE FROM MAQUOKETA.

KMAQ HAD A STORY TODAY ON THE NEW O'REILLY AUTO PARTS STORE WHICH OPENED ON JULY 30TH IN THE FORMER TRUE VALUE BUILDING ON WEST PLATT STREET, JUST WEST OF JACK AND JILL. THE CHAIN IS BASED IN ST. LOUIS AND HAS 1, 183 STORES. BRIAN BOWLING OF MAQUOKETA IS THE STORE MANAGER. HE WAS TRAINED AT THE LARGE O'REILLY STORE IN DAVENPORT. HE SAYS ABOUT 6,500 SQUARE FOOT OF THE BUILDING IS BEING USED WITH ABOUT A 50-50 SPLIT INVOLDING PARTS BEHIND THE COUNTER AS WELL AS DISPLAY MERCHANDISE. IN ADDITION TO BOWLING, THE STORE HAS 4 FULLTIME EMPLOYEES AND 1 PARTTIME. IT IS OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK.

WES AND JANET GILBERT OF SHENANDOAH ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN SATURDAY AT THE CLARINDA HOSPITAL. GRAND-PARENTS ARE RON AND CHERYL HEINRICH OF MAQUOKETA.
AND..I HAVE A CORRECTION TO MAKE. THE NEW GRANDCHILD FOR BOB AND ANN OSTERHAUS
IS GRANDCHILD NUMBER 26, NOT 27.

NO MAQUOKETA DEATHS TO REPORT....IN FACT....WE HAD NONE AT ALL ON THE KMAQ LOCAL NEWS TODAY.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND. AND YES, BOB OSTERHAUS SAYS YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL
DEMOCRATIC RIBEYE STEAK FRY AT THE KALMES RESTAURANT IN ST. DONATUS SATURDAY LATE AFTERNOON. $25 A TICKET OR $40 A COUPLE. BOB SOLD ME TWO TICKETS TODAY. SEVERAL CANDIDATES WILL BE THERE. WINDY KALMES IS A GREAT CHEF.
