61 TODAY....NICE.

FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSY THIS AFTERNOON. FIRST, AROUND 12:30...CALLED TO HELP WELTON DEPARTMENT FIGHT A BAD GRASS FIRE ALONG 4-LANE 61 NORTH OF WELTON AND THEN AROUND 5 THIS AFTERNOON, TO FIGHT A CAR FIRE AT MCDONALD'S. WORD IS, THAT CAR WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED.
WILL HAVE MORE ON THAT TOMORROW. ALSO, THE WELTON GRASS FIRE APPARENTLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. TRAFFIC HAD TO BE RE-ROUTED AROUND THE FIRE.

A WELL KNOWN MAQUOKETA WOMAN DIED SUDDENLY LAST NIGHT. THE RESCUE SQUAD WAS CALLED TO HER HOME AND SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE SHE DIED. I DO NOT KNOW THE OFFICIAL CAUSE ... BUT HEARD IT WAS PROBABLY A HEART ATTACK. SHE IS LINDA TRENKAMP, MRS. DWAIN TRENKAMP, A LONG TIME BANK EMPLOYEE. SHE WORKED AT US BANK FOR 30 YEARS, DATING BACK TO WHEN IT WAS THE JACKSON STATE SAVINGS BANK. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND, DWAIN, ALSO WITH US BANK, 2 DAUGHTERS, JENNNIFER OF DES MOINES AND JEANNA AT HOME, 2 SONS, JASON AND JUSTIN, BOTH OF DES MOINES, HER PARENTS, MELVIN "RED" AND BETTY BENHART OF MAQUOKETA, 1 SISTER, BRENDA PETIT OF MAQUOKETA, 3 BROTHERS, ALLEN, LARRY AND BRIAN BENHART ALL OF MAQUOKETA AND BY HER FATHER-IN-LAW, FRANK TRENKAMP OF PRESTON. THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE FRIDAY MORNING AT LAHEY FUNERAL HOME HERE IN MAQUOKETA.
