TO PUT OUT AN AIRPLANE ENGINE FIRE AT THE AIRPORT....AND SHORTLY AFTER ..A CALL THAT SOMEONE STRUCK A GAS PIPE OUTSIDE OWL FURNITURE AND FIREMEN WAITED UNTIL THE GAS WAS TURNED OFF. A 1976 TWIN ENGINE PLANE WAS BEING FILLED WITH FUEL WHEN THE PLANE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF AL MUHLHAUSEN WAS DRIVING PAST THE AIRPORT TOWARD MAQUOKETA WHEN THE CALL CAME....SO HE DROVE IN AND PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH AN EXTINGUISHER BEFORE FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED. FIREMEN DID COOL OFF THE HOT SPOTS ON THE ENGINE WHEN THEY ARRIVED.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, SUE, AND SEVERAL CHILDREN AND STEP-CHILDREN.

IN COLLEGE WRESTLING, IOWA AND IOWA STATE MET AT AMES YESTERDAY. IOWA STATE WAS LEADING THE MEET 15 TO 13 GOING IN TO THE FINAL MATCH. THE FINAL MATCH WOULD DETERMINE THE WINNER. AND..IT WAS UP TO HAWKEYE COLE PAPE OF MAQUOKETA, AT 168 POUNDS. PAPE LOST, WAS PINNED, AND GAVE IOWA STATE A 21 TO 13 VICTORY, THEIR FIRST VICTORY OVER IOWA IN 16 YEARS.

FRIDAY NIGHT, THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS OPENED WAMAC CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A ROAD WIN OVER GILBERTSVILLE DON BOSCO, 84 TO 29. BROOKE DAVIS SCORED 19 POINTS FOR THE CARDINALS. THEY PLAY AT MANCHESTER TOMORROW NIGHT.

THE MAQUOKETA BOYS HOST WEST DELAWARE OF MANCHESTER TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE MAQUOKETA GYM.

LAST SATURDAY, THE MAQUOKETA WRESTLERS WON A TOURNAMENT AT INDEPENDENCE. THE CARDINALS CROWNED 5 CHAMPIONS: CASEY STUART, JUST A FRESHMAN, AT 105 POUNDS...JON POLL AT 125....BOBBY KIRK AT 140....CHRIS HAHN AT 145....AND DANE PAPE AT 215. MAQUOKETA HAD 225 POINTS TO WIN THE EVENT AND INDEPENDENCE WAS SECOND WITH 175.
