TODAY'S HIGH WAS 58...NOW AT 9:30 p.m. it is 40.

Mayor Tom Messerli was easily re-elected today, winning over Pam Rosenberg, l,004 to 266 votes.
This will be his second term. He runs a TV repair business in Maquoketa and Dubuque and also is KMAQ's Engineer and Saturday morning drive-time announcer on FM. He is also a fireman. Today is his 43rd birthday.
He is divorced, has a daughter in college and his longtime friend of 10 years is KMAQ's News Director Sheri Melvold. Mention marriage and its "why ruin a good thing?" Both have lovely homes in Maquoketa..one in the 2nd Ward and the other in the 4th Ward.

In the 1st Ward, Alvin Barten was un-opposed and re-elected with 145 votes. He has a Used Car business on East Platt Street.

In the 2nd Ward, Tim Clark was elected to a full 4-year term with 153 votes. He was un-opposed. He was finishing out the term of a councilman that moved to Alaska.

In the 3rd Ward, there was no candidate. Current councilman Jim Bollman did not seek re-election. Winning that seat by write-in, Marsha Myers, with 18 votes. She has been a Maquoketa resident for only a few years and I have no other information about her.

In the 5th Ward, to replace Steve Flynn who is moving out of the city limits and could not run for that reason, there was a race between businessman Paul Hahle and businessman and ex-Mayor Jack Rosenberg. Hahle won, 324 to 106.

For At-Large Council, current councilman Tim Chapin was defeated soundly by a former councilman, Neil Morehead, 874 to 365.

Carry-over Council members, are Tom Schueller and John Cressey.

And that's the way they counted up today.

Good night...or Good day, whenever you read this. THANKS TO THE 1,284 PEOPLE THAT VOTED TODAY.
I'M NOT SURE WHAT PERCENTAGE OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS THAT IS??
