THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL DEFEATED THE DEFENDING CHAMPION CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 19TH ANNUAL ACADEMIC QUIZ BOWL PRESENTED BY AND HELD AT CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THERE WERE 11 SCHOOLS IN THE COMPETITION. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CARDINALS.
YESTERDAY, I REPORTED THAT KATHY CAVEN JACOBY, AGE 54, OF SWISHER, IOWA AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED WEDNESDAY AT CEDAR RAPIDS. MORE NOW. SHE DIED OF COMPLICATIONS FROM ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.
SHE GRADUATED FROM MAQUOKETA HIGH IN 1967 AND FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HER HUSBAND CHARLES, HER PARENTS, SAM AND MARY CAVEN OF BALDWIN, AND 4 BROTHERS, INCLUDING JOHN, KENNY AND NEIL CAVEN OF MAQUOKETA.
BILL BURMAHL, AGE 93, OF MAQUOKETA AND FORMERLY OF SPRAGUEVILLE, DIED YESTERDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL.
HE FARMED ALL HIS LIFE IN THE SPRAGUEVILLE AREA. HE WAS LIVING AT CLOVER RIDGE PLACE AND IS SURVIVED BY A DAUGHTER, WANDA CORNELIUS OF RURAL BELLEVUE, PLUS 3 GRANDCHILDREN AND 7 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.
