THE DAY STARTED OFF OKAY WITH SOME SUNSHINE...BUT THE WEATHER CHANGED THIS AFTERNOON AND
BY LATE AFTERNOON...LIGHT RAIN STARTED...THEN ABOUT 4:30 AND SINCE THEN..THUNDER AND LIGHTNING AND
RAIN. HIGH WAS 57 TODAY...NOW IT IS 49. THE FRESH-SOPH GAME WAS SCHEDULED TO START AT 5:15 BUT IS NOW ON HOLD FOR AWHILE.....HOPEFULLY, THERE WILL NO LONGER BE LIGHTNING BY VARSISTY GAME TIME AT 7:45. FOOTBALL GAMES CAN BE PLAYED IN THE RAIN BUT NOT WHEN THERE IS LIGHTNING. OPPONENT TONIGHT, VINTON-SHELLSBURG. THEY, LIKE THE CARDINALS, HAVE NOT WON A GAME THIS YEAR. SO, HOPEFULLY MAQUOKETA CAN FINIALLY GET A WIN TONIGHT.

THE JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD HAS RECEIVED A REAP GRANT FOR $82,000. THE MONEY WILL BE USED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER JUST NORTH OF MAQUOKETA. CONSTRUCTION WILL START SOON ON IT.

RAYMOND LEE, AGE 95, OF DEWITT DIED TODAY AT THE WESTWING PLACE IN DEWITT. HE IS SURVIVED BY ONE DAUGHTER AND TWO SONS, INCLUDING ROBERT LEE OF DEWITT AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA.

IN CASE YOU HAVE NOT HEARD, THE SOYBEAN CROP THIS YEAR IS BAD BUT THE CORN YIELD WILL BE BETTER THAN EXPECTED. AND CATTLE PRICES CONTINUE TO BE UP AT RECORD HIGHS.

WE HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED THAT THE FRESH-SOPH GAME WILL START LATE TONIGHT, AT 6:15 AND THE VARSITY GAME WILL FOLLOW, NO DOUBT ALSO LATER THAN NORMAL.
