ONE OF THE COUSINS BROKE THE SURFACE OF THE WATER AND YELLED FOR HELP. DAVID AND THE OTHER MAN, JUMPED IN AND ASSISTED THE MAN TO SHORE. THE MAN THEN GOT THE MESSAGE TO THEM THAT ANOTHER PERSON WAS STILL IN THE CAR UNDER WATER AND THE TWO MEN DIVED IN AGAIN AND BACK TO THE CAR WHERE DAVID FOUND AND OPENED ONE OF THE BACK DOORS, ENTERED THE CAR, UNLATCHED THE SEAT BELT AND YANKED HIM FROM THE CAR AND GOT HIM TO SHORE AND APPLIED CPR TECHNIQUES. BOTH COUSINS WERE IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL TWO YEARS LATER THAT BOTH WERE ABLE TO RETURN TO THEIR JOBS. DAVID WAS A COOK AT THE TIME AND NOW IS SELLING PRODUCTS IN THE WINE INDUSTRY IN ITALY AND CALIFORNIA. HIS FATHER, GARY, IS THE SONE OF LYLE AND LOIS GRUENWALD OF MAQUOKETA.
