A 1947 PHOTO OF THE FORMER PASTIME THEATRE IN MAQUOKETA, WHERE SMILES ON MAIN IS LOCATED NOW.   IT MADE WAY FOR A NEW STORE IN 1973.    BANK DAY WAS VERY POPULAR.   IT WAS UP TO $500 WHEN THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN.     THAT WAS A LOT OF MONEY IN 1947.
THE WINNER HAD TO BE PRESENT TO WIN.    I OWNED AND RAN IT FOR THE FINAL 3-MONTHS, IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER IN 1972 AND JANUARY OF 1973.
THE NEW VOY THEATRE OPENED IN MARCH OF 1973, SO MAQUOKETA DID NOT
HAVE A THEATRE FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS IN 1973.    I HAVE A COUPLE THE PASTIME
SEATS IN THE KMAQ BASEMENT.    THE PROJECTIONIST WAS HOWARD BRINKER.
FOR 40 YEARS. THE ONLY JOB IN HIS LIFE.    I HAVE HIS TABLE TOP RADIO IN MY
KMAQ OFFICE AND IT STILL WORKS.
