IT WAS A GOOD YEAR FOR MOVIES, ESPECIALLY "THE LION KING".
IT WAS THE FIRST MOVIE TO SHOW OUT THERE FOR 4 WEEKS.
NEEDED A GOOD SEASON! AS ALWAYS, LOTS OF EXPENSES IN KEEPING IT OPEN.
THIS YEAR, NEW TICKET BOOTH, TREES DOWN, UPGRADED MEN'S REST
ROOM TO BE FASTER, TRAIN NEEDED MAJOR REPAIRS, NEW AIR CONDITIONER
FOR THE PROJECTOR ROOM....AND SO IT GOES.
MY 48TH YEAR!! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU THAT CAME THIS SEASON.
THE MHS CLASS OF 1954 HELD THEIR REUNION
THIS PAST WEEKEND AT THE DECKER AND
HURSTVILLE CENTER. NANCY'S CLASS.
GOOD TIME BY ALL.
THEIR OTHER HALF, BELOW...

MY FRIEND AND WELL KNOWN FORMER MAQUOKETAN RON MILLER DIED MONDAY AT 86,
SIX YEARS AFTER A BAD STROKE. HERE IN TOWN
HE HAD EXECUTIVE POSITION AT CLINTON ENGINES AND WHEN THEY CLOSED, HE WAS A SALESMAN FOR
JOHN WAGENER, CARL ROTMAN AND ROSS RIVER.
HAS BEEN LIVING IN ARIZONA FOR MANY YEARS
WITH HIS WIFE SHIRLEY, A CLINTON NATIVE.
MY SYMPATHY TO SHIRLEY. HE AND SHIRLY BOTH
CHECKED THIS REPORT DAILY.
THE CARDINALS WILL PLAY IN OCTOBER IN THE
PLAYOFFS. TOO BAD CUBS FANS.
THE MAQUOKETA CARDINALS PLAY AT CEDAR

I WAS AT LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN, THIS WEEK TUESDAY-THURSDAY, ATTENDING
THE ANNUAL MIDWEST NATO CONVENTION. NATO....NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
THEATRE OWNERS....CONVENTION WAS HELD THERE AS IN PAST YEARS AT THE GENEVA CENTER, WITH CLOSE TO 500 ATTENDING. IT WAS A NICE
EVENT AT A GREAT LARGE HOTEL (AT ONE TIME A PLAYBOY CLUB) AND NANCY AND I ENJOYED GOOD FOOD AND WE SAW MANY TRAILERS OF UPCOMING MOVIES.
A BIG VARIETY OF MOVIES IS COMING THIS YEAR AND NEXT, AND MANY LOOK TO
BE HITS. NATO NATIONAL HAS SEVERAL REGIONAL CHAPTERS AND THE MIDWEST
CHAPTER IS MADE UP OF IOWA AND SIX OTHER STATES. EACH YEAR, THREE
THEATRE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN IN THE BUSINESS FOR MANY YEARS ARE INDUCTED INTO THE MIDWEST HALL OF FAME. I WAS ONE OF THOSE TO RECEIVE THE HONOR YESTERDAY. I'VE BEEN A THEATRE OWNER FOR 48 YEARS. FOR MORE ABOUT NATO, THEATRE BUSINESS AND THE HALL OF FAME.....GOOGLE GENEVA CONVENTION OR BOXOFFICE MAGAZINE.
THE ABOVE PHOTO IS OF THE CRYSTAL ENGRAVED GIFT I WAS PRESENTED.
MY ACCEPTANCE SPEACH WAS AROUND 10-12 MINUTES. I WAS NERVOUS, BUT IT
WENT WELL. NICE COMMENTS AFTER.
IT WAS A FUN WEEK. A GREAT HONOR. MY THANKS TO THOSE WHO NOMINATED ME AND TO THE MANY NICE COMMENTS RECEIVED AT THE CLOSE OF CONVENTION
AND LOCALLY SINCE GETTING HOME..... ON THE PHONE AND FACEBOOK.
NANCY WAS WITH ME AND ALSO ENJOYED THE CONVENTION. GRANDDAUGHTER SARA CLASEN DROVE UP FOR YESTERDAY'S DINNER AND SURPRISED ME. SHE TOOK
PHOTOS ABOVE. LAKE GENEVA (3 HOURS FROM HERE) IS A BEAUTIFUL CITY FOR TOURISTS.
NOW......I'M AGAIN "CHARGED-UP" FOR ANOTHER YEAR OF SUPER MOVIES ON THE BIG SCREENS DOWNTOWN AND AT THE DRIVE-IN.

GLEN "RED" HENTON
IS 99 TODAY. THE CELEBRATION BEGAN HERE AT KMAQ WHEN RED WAS ON MY MORNING SHOW AT 7:30 AND HE READ THE WEATHER FORECAST. THEN WE CHATTED ABOUT HIS LIFE IN MAQUOKETA, AS A POPULAR SINGER, CHAMPION HORSESHOE PITCHER AND FISHERMAN. FROM HERE HE WENT TO McDONALD'S FOR A PARTY ARRANGED BY HIS FRIEND GIB MARCUCCI OF MONMOUTH. CAKE, ICE CREAM, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG, A FEW TEARY-EYED COMMENTS BY RED AND I SAW A BIG BASKET OF CARDS. HE'S HAVING A GREAT DAY. HE'S STILL SHARP, LIVES ALONE IN HIS HOME AT 413 SOUTH JONES, CAN STILL SING LIKE A PRO.... AND WE ARE ALL NOW LOOKING FORWARD TO THE "REALLY BIG BIRTHDAY" ONE YEAR FROM NOW.
