THURSDAY DAILY

GREAT CHRISTMAS DISPLAY AT THE VERL AND ANITA HOWELL HOME AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF NIAGARA AND VERMONT STREETS, SOUTH OF THE
HOSPITAL.


A NEW BUSINESS OPENS AT 10 A.M. TOMORROW MORNING IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA, NEXT TO THE THEATRE, CALLED FINDERS KEEPERS, OWNED
BY RACHEL HANSON OF RURAL BELLEVUE
RACHAEL WITH HER SPECIAL FRIEND CRAIG PITTS.   HE MADE ALL THE
WOODEN ITEMS ABOVE/





WE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT WATER CONSERVATION AND ROTATIONAL
GRAZING LAST NIGHT.   
TERRY McCULLEY PRESENTED A CONSERVATION AWARD TO BRYAN NOONAN AND HIS WIFE.   THE AWARD WAS ALSO FOR BRYAN'S DAD RAY, COULD NOT BE THERE LAST NIGHT.

TERRY ALSO PRESENTED A CONSERVATION AWARD TO BILL AND STACY
BORRENPOHL
CINDY FULLER ALSO RECEIVED AN AWARD BUT WAS NOT PRESENT.
AND FINIALLY...
AN AWARD TO JAMIE HOSTETLER.    I WASN'T ABLE TO GET HIS PHOTO WITH HIS AWARD PLAQUE.
GOOD DINNER, GOOD CONSERVATION INFORMATION AND WELL DESERVED

WEDNESDAY DAILY

THE MAQUOKETA ART EXPERIENCE/MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
BUILDING DOWNTOWN, WAS BUILDT IN 1876  AND WAS CALLED
"CENTENNIAL HALL"....AND FOR MANY YEARS WAS HOME TO OSTERHAUS
PHARMACY.
THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING, MOSTLY METAL, WAS TAKEN  OFF TO EXPOSE
THE ORGINAL BRICK FRONT AND THIS SUMMER AND FALL, THE BUILDING
IS HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO LOOK LIKE WHEN BUILDT, WITH NEW
UPSTAIRS WINDOWS.     THE TOP NAME...CENTENNIAL HALL 1876.... WAS CONCRETE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW CONCRETE AS SHOWN ABOVE.  LARRY McDEVITT (COUNTY SUPERVISOR)
PUT IT IN PLACE THIS WEEK, BY HIMSELF.   IT WAS REDONE IN DUBUQUE BY A
CONCRETE FIRM, IS 6 INCHES THICK AND THE TWO SIDE-BY-SIDE PIECES WEIGH OVER 400 POUNDS.    IT SHOULD LAST FOREVER.   SOME BRICK WORK AROUND IT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE BY LARRY.   LARRY HAS BEEN THE
MAIN FORCE BEHIND THE BUILDING'S RESTORATION WITH THE HELP  OF
G.L. STOCKHAM AND SON.     THE WORK IS NEARING COMPLETION AND
I AND HUNDREDS MORE ARE ANXIOUS TO SEE THE COMPLETED PROJECT.

THE RUSS LONG HOME ON NILES STREET.

JACKSON COUNTY GIS COORDINATOR HEATHER
SKIDMORE SPOKE AT ROTARY TODAY.   SHE HAS
HELD THE JOB SINCE THE POSITION WAS 
ESTABLISHED 2 YEARS AGO.    WHAT IS GIS AND
WHAT DOES SHE DO FOR JACKSON COUNTY AT
THE COURTHOUSE?   GOOGLE ....JACKSON COUNTY IOWA GIS COORDINATOR FOR ALL THE
DETAILS ON HER GOOD WEB SITE.



LAST NIGHT...
AT MARION, THE CARDINAL BOYS LOST 59 TO 55.
HERE, THE CARDINAL GIRLS LOST TO MARION, 83 TO 32.    MARION
IS #1 IN THE STATE AND LAST YEAR ALMOST WON THE STATE TOURNAMENT
CHAMPIONSHIP.
BOYS ARE NOW 0 AND1 AND GIRLS 1 AND 1.

THE 2017 JACK MARLOWE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI TOURNAMENT WAS  HELD SATURDAY, NOV 25TH, AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.    THE "COMBINED"
CLASSES OF 1998-2001 WON THE TOURNAMENT OVER THE CLASS FROM
2012.     ABOVE PHOTO, NICK CLASEN (CLASS OF 2012)....JACK MARLOWE
AND WILL RENNER, OF THE WINNING TEAM.
ABOVE, THE WINNING TEAM:    LEFT TO RIGHT:    ROGER HARDIN, BOB JOST,
DAN BREWSTER, WILL RENNER, JAKE DENGER AND AARON SCHWENKER.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS HOST MARION TONIGHT AND THE BOYS ARE
AT MARION FOR THEIR FIRST GAME.   THE GIRLS HAVE PLAYED A GAME
ALREADY AND WON IT.

IN  FRONT OF KMAQ....THANKS TO CINDY AND LEIGHTON HEPKER.

SUNDAY DAILY

THE FOUR PREPS SHOW LAST NIGHT AT OHNWARD WAS VERY GOOD.
GOOD TURNOUT.     WE SIT ON THE LEFT WING AND  SO THE TOP PHOTO
HAS EMPTY SEATS...BUT THE MIDDLE SECTION WAS NEARLY FULL.
FIRST HALF OF SHOW FEATURED THEIR HITS INCLUDING "26 MILES", THEIR
FIRST AND BIGGEST HIT.  SECOND HALF WAS CHRISTMAS MUSIC.



BONNIE BORMAN AT 805 GRANT STREET HAS FRONT YARD DECORATIONS
FOR ALL HOLIDAYS AND WAS ONE OF FIRST THIS YEAR WITH A
CHRISTMAS  DISPLAY.     SEE ABOVE.      NICE .. THANKS BONNIE.

WEDNESDAY DAILY

JAKE BICKFORD AND I WENT FOR COFFEE THIS AFTERNOON AT McDONALDS
AND DR. PAUL BROWN STOPPED IN FOR A CUP AND WE HAD A GOOD
CONVERSATION.   MANY OF YOU REMEMBER THE "BROMAN AND BROWN"
MEDICAL CLINIC IN MAQUOKETA, FROM THE MID-50'S TO THEIR LAST YEAR
OF SEEING PATIENTS 27 YEARS AGO.     DR. BROWN, 94, WAS DRIVING
ALONE FROM HIS HOME (IN A NICE CARE CENTER) IN FORT DODGE TO
ROCK FALLS, ILLINOIS, TO HAVE THANKSGIVING DINNER WITH ONE OF
THE 7 CHILDREN.   ONE LIVES IN FORT DODGE AND HE HAS BEEN THERE
OVER 10 YEARS.    HIS WIFE DORIS DIED 7  YEARS AGO AND IS BURIED
AT MT. HOPE CEMETERY HERE.    DR. BROMAN, A COUPLE YEARS OLDER
THAN PAUL, DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO.      DR. BROWN WAS A CITY
COUNCILMAN HERE IN THE LATE 70'S.   HIS CHILDREN ARE:   GEORGE IN
FLORIDA, ANN IN ROCK FALLS, JANET IN FORT DODGE, JIM IN FLORIDA,
PAULA IN MINNESOTA,  CAROL IN MINNESOTA AND PHIL IN DES MOINES.
SEVERAL ARE RETIRED.    AS YOU CAN SEE, HE LOOKS GOOD, HAS NO
HEALTH PROBLEMS, AND SUBSCRIBES TO THE MAQUOEKETA SENTINEL-PRESS TO KEEP UP ON WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE.    A COUPLE
YEARS AGO THERE WAS A REUNION OF FORMER EMPLOYEES  AND
THERE MAY BE ANOTHER SOMETIME.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS WON THEIR FIRST  BASKETBALL GAME OF  THE
SEASON LAST NIGHT, EASILY, AGAINST BENTON.

27  CLUB HOPE MEMBERS FROM MAQUOKETA HIGH ARE IN TEXAS
TO HELP WITH CLEAN-UP.   THEY ARRIVED THIS MORNING AND WILL
BE HOME SUNDAY NIGHT, VIA A CHARTERED BUS.    TOMORROW THEY WILL HELP SERVE A HUGE THANKSGIVING DINNER.

TUESDAY DAILY

ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO, GARY WAS THE PERSON THAT DECIDED TO HAVE A
LOCAL DRIVE OF MONEY AND VOLUNTEERS TO BUILD THE 840 SEAT
AUDITORIUM AND IT OPENED 11 YEARS AGO.    IT WAS BUILDT AT A COST OF ABOUT $1 MILLION DOLLARS.    



NEED A SANTA?   HE'S GOOD.    EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT TO CONTACT HIM.


THE TWO ABOVE MOVIES....JUST OVER 2 HOURS TOTAL....START WEDNESDAY
NIGHT AT THE VOY THEATRE.    
YES..THE THEATRE WILL BE OPEN THANKSGIVING NIGHT.
AND WILL BE OPEN AT 2 FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT BARGAIN
ADMISSION.

WE WENT TO THE BIG BAND SHOW LAST NIGHT AT OHNWARD FINE ARTS
CENTER.   WENT EARLY TO VIEW THE "FESTIVAL OF TREES".   THE 13TH
ANNUAL FESTIVAL IS REALLY NICE.   ENJOY A FEW PHOTO....
STOP AND SEE THE FESTIVAL ANYTIME BETWEEN NOW AND THROUGH
NEXT SUNDAY.....FREE ADMISSION.   YOU CAN BUY A WREATH OR
TREE IF YOU LIKE.

THE KEN KILLIAN BIG BAND SHOW WAS VERY GOOD AND INCLUDED A LOT OF CHRISTMAS MUSIC.   ATTENDANCE WAS OKAY, BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
RICH HALL DID HIS USUAL GOOD JOB DOING INTRODUCTION TO SHOW
AND PLUGGING THE SPONSORS.    AND...FUNNY OR  NOT...HE GETS A
LAUGH TO KEEP HIM HAPPY.

WILL HAVE SOME BIG LOCAL BUSINESS NEWS,  HOPEFULLY NEXT WEEK.

SATURDAY DAILY

THE NEW SAVANNA-SABULA BRIDGE OPENEND TO TRAFFIC YESTERDAY
AFTERNOON.   TOP PHOTO, THE NEW IN BLUE AND THE OLD IN THE BACKGROUND.    ABOVE PHOTO, NEW BRIDGE AT LEFT AND OLD AT RIGHT.


THE NEW CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOEKTA.



IT WAS "DOLLAR DAY" TODAY AT THE GOODWILL STORE DOWTOWN.   THIS
WAS THE LINE WAITING TO GET IN WHEN THE DOORS OPENED AT 9.   THE
PARKING LOT WAS FULL FOR HOURS.

GOOD TURN OUT AT 1 THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE "RIBBON CUTTING" CEREMONY AT THE PAVILION AT PRAIRIE CREEK.    WITH FREE 
REFRESHMENTS, AND A BLAZING FIREPLACE..... AROUND 75 PEOPLE WERE ON HAND TO ADMIRE THE NEW BUILDING.  NO ACTUAL RIBBON TO CUT,
BUT A NICE PROGRAM WAS PRESENTED INSIDE.
JESSICA WAGNER, FROM THE CONSERVATION OFFICE, EMCEE.
CHRIS CORNELIUS, MEMBER OF FRIENDS OF JACKSON COUNTY
CONSERVATION.
EMILY HIGHWRM, NATURALIST FROM JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION,
AND WORKING HER LAST DAY AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS HERE.  TAKING
SIMILIAR JOB AT PRAIRIE Du SHIEN, WISCONSIN.
KATHIE ATKINSON, ALSO MEMBER OF THE FRIENDS GROUP.
AND..... LAST TO MAKE COMMENTS, DARREL PARKER, DIRECTOR FOR  OVER
20 YEARS OF JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION.
LOOKING EAST OUT OF THE PAVILION.  
THIS IS THE OUTDOOR PATIO OVERLOOKING  THE AREA IN PHOTO ABOVE.
THERE ARE 9 PICNIC TABLES, SO THERE WILL BE SEATING FOR AROUND 75 ...THESE 3 AND 6 INSIDE INSIDE.   ROOM TO  MOVE THESE 3 INSIDE IF
NEEDED.   ALL 9  TABLES MADE AND DONATED BY NICK MEYER OF
MAQUOKETA.
