ALSO, SOME GYNECOLOGICAL SURGERIES AT THE HOSPITAL ARE PLANNED ON AN OUT-PATIENT BASIS. AND, COLEMAN ALSO SAID THAT EAR, NOSE AND THROAT CLINICS ARE BEING HELD ON A LIMITED BASIS AND HE SAID THEY HOPE TO INCREASE THE USE OF THOSE AREAS. HE SAID SURGICAL
PROCEDURES COULD BE PERFORMED FOR PODIATRY PATIENTS IN THE FUTURE.
ALSO AT THE BOARD MEETING, THE BOARD LEARNED THAT GERALYN EVANS, AN RN AT THE HOSPITAL FOR MORE THAN 37 YEARS RETIRED AT THE
END OF MAY. SHE STARTED AS A CANDY-STRIPER MORE THAN 37 YEARS AGO IN THE EARLY 70'S AND PURSUED HER NURSING CAREER AS AN LPN

92 HERE AT K-M-A-Q
MORE COMING REST OF THE WEEK!
THERE WILL BE A BREEZE TO HELP TONIGHT AT THE ROTARY ICE CREAM
SOCIAL AND BAND CONCERT...
AND TOMORROW NIGHT, AT THE CAVES STATE PARK FOR THE FFA PICNIC.
I'LL BE AT BOTH AND WILL TAKE SOME PHOTOS.
THE MAQUOKETA CLASS OF 1972 WILL HOLD THEIR 40TH REUNION THIS SATURDAY FROM 6 UNTIL 11 AT THE COMFORT INN.
AND SUNDAY THEY WILL MEET AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL T 9:30 A.M. TO TOUR THE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL TOO. REFRESHMENTS WILL BE SERVED.
THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER WILL RECEIVE $6,000 FOR SERVICES FOR THE CITY. THE CHAMBER HAD ASKED FOR $8,000. THE CHAMBER ALSO
ASKED FOR HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THEIR DIRECTOR, BUT THE CITY
SAID IT COULD NOT PAY FOR IT, AFTER CHECKING WITH THEIR
CARRIER.
THE JACKSON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER (I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN THE WORD HOSPITAL WAS IN THE NAME) BOARD HAS AGREED TO
POSTPONE ANY BUILDING PROJECTS AT THE HOSPITAL, UNTIL THE
HOSPITAL'S FINANCIAL PICTURE LOOKS BETTER. THE BOARD APPROVED NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET OF $19.9 MILLION WHICH INCLUDES A RATE INCREASE OF 6%. BUT, IT ALSO SHOWS A DEFICIT OF NEARLY $300,000.
ADMINISTRATOR CURT COLEMAN SAID THEY WILL BE WORKING TO MAKE SOME CHANGES AND EFFICIENCIES TO ELIMINATE THE DEFICIT.
OUR NEIGHBOR CITY TO THE SOUTH, DEWITT, NO LONGER HAS A
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION.
AFTER MONTHS OF STUDY, THEY COMBINED THE TWO TO FORM
D-B & C...... DEWITT BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
IT HAD ITS "KICK-OFF" CELEBRATION EVENT YESTERDAY LATE AFTERNOON
AT THE COUNTRY CLUB AND I ATTENDED, AS KMAQ HAS BEEN A LONGTIME CHAMBER MEMBER. THEY HAD A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER GIVE A
"CHARGING" SPEECH. DEWITT IS HAVING GOOD TIMES! THEIR
VERY ATTRACTIVE MAIN STREET HAS NO EMPTY BUILDINGS.
DEWITT IS HELPED BY BEING CLOSER TO THE QUAD CITIES AND MANY CITIZENS LIVE THERE BUT WORK IN BETTENDORF AND DAVENPORT.
RUMOR HAS IT..."THE LOFT" ON WEST PLATT IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA....
A POPULAR UPSTAIRS BAR AND RESTAURANT FOR OVER 25 YEARS....
MAY BE RE-OPENING SOON. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.
KEEP COOL!!

THIS IS THE NEW LOOK AT "BLUFF LAKE CATFISH FARM" RESTAURANT
JUST BEYOND THE MAQUOKETA CAVES STATE PARK. GO THROUGH
THE PARK AND TURN LEFT ON THE GRAVEL ROAD. THEY COME FROM
ALL OVER THE AREA ON FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. NOW,
A GIFT SHOP AT THE ENTRYWAY. MOST ENJOY FISH, AND CHICKEN....BUT SOME NOW ENJOY PRIME RIB ON FRIDAY NIGHTS.
I BET THEY'LL BE ADDING A SIGN ON BUILDING ONE OF THESE DAYS......AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THE WATERFALL ON THE LAKE, FROM YOUR DINING TABLE.

TODAY WAS A FUN "FATHER'S DAY" FOR THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB.
THE CLUB, FOR THE 2ND YEAR, SPONSORED A PANCAKE BREAKFAST AT THE
MAQUOKETA AIRPORT. IT STARTED OUT WITH SOME FOG, WHICH QUICKLY
CLEARED, AND THEN TURNED OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL MORNING.
AGAIN THIS YEAR, THE PANCAKES WERE MADE AND FLIPPED BY CHRIS
PANCAKES OF NORTHWEST IOWA....A PRO. MANY TIMES, HE WOULD FLIP ALL 4 OR 5 CAKES TO THE NEXT PERSON IN LINE. MOST OF THE TIME, THEY CAUGHT THEM. IT WAS ALWAYS GOOD FOR A LAUGH WHEN HE FLIPPED
THE DELICIOUS CAKES. WITH SAUSAGE, FRUIT, JUICE AND COFFEE....IT WAS A GREAT BREAKFAST, ALL YOU COULD EAT. THANKS TO ROTARIAN
WILL RENNER FOR "CHAIRING" THE EVENT AGAIN...HE HAD EVERYTHING
WELL ORGANIZED AND MANY ROTARIANS WERE ON HAND TO HELP FOR AN HOUR OR TWO OR ALL MORNING. LOTS OF WORK DONE BY CONNIE TJARKS, OUR ROTARY PRESIDENT UNTIL JUNE 30TH WHEN HER YEAR COMES TO AN END...AND SHE HAS DONE WELL DURING HER YEAR. PILOTS THAT FLEW IN, GOT BREAKFAST FREE AND THERE WERE 41 PLANES....POSSIBLY A RECORD. THEY CAME FROM CHICAGO, MARION, CARTHAGE, CEDAR RAPIDS, VINTON, DUBUQUE, BURLINGTON, DEWITT, LONG GROVE, INDEPENDENCE, MANCHESTER, WEST UNION, DECORAH, ZWINGLE, CUBA CITY, LISBON, IOWA CITY, TIPTION, AND OTHERS...ONE FROM MAQUOKETA. A TOTAL OF 521 PEOPLE WERE SERVED BREAKFAST, INCLUDING THE PILOTS.
THANK YOU FOR COMING!
