TODAY WAS A GREAT DAY IN DELMAR!     THE NEW ALL-VETERANS MEMORIAL WAS DEDICATED AT THE DELMAR RAILROAD AND MILITARY MUSEUM
NEXT TO THE DEPOT.     IT STARTED WITH A VETERANS MOTORCYCLE
CARAVAN BY THE PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS.  THE  MILITARY SERVICE FLAGS AND U.S.FLAG WERE RAISED WITH A GUN SALUTE AT THE END  AND THE SINGING OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.    FRAN RILEY OF KWQC-TV IN DAVENPORT SPOKE FIRST, ON BEHALF OF HIS WIFE WHOSE SON WAS THE FIRST CASUALITY (A MARINE) OF THE WAR IN IRAQ.    THEN THE VICE-COMMANDER OF THE IOWA AMERICAN LEGION, MONTY RAILSBACK, WAS THE MAIN SPEAKER.   CONGRESSMAN BRAYLEY'S REPRESENTATIVE ALSO SPOKE.    THE EMCEE WAS KENNY WAGNER OF DELMAR (IN PHOTO WITH HEAD MIKE AND STRIPED SPORT SHIRT) AND THERE WAS BAGPIPE MUSIC AND TAPS WAS PLAYED BY A VIOLINIST.
IT WAS VERY WINDY, BUT SINCE FLAGS WERE A BIG PART OF THE DEDICATION, IT WAS GOOD TO HAVE THE WIND.    IT WAS A NICE PROGRAM
WITH A VERY GOOD CROWD.   A LUNCH (FREE WILL DONATION) WAS SERVED TO MOST AFTER THE EVENT.    THE BOTTOM PHOTO IS OF THE TWO VETERANS (AND RAILROAD BUFFS) WHO CAME TO DELMAR LAST YEAR AND
RE-OPENED THE DEPOT MUSEUM RAILROAD WITH ARTIFACTS FROM A MUSEUM IN THE QUAD CITIES.    THEY THEN WORKED THE MUSEUM 6 DAYS A WEEK LAST SUMMER AND INTO FALL.   NO PAY.    IT IS ONE OF THE FINEST

MILITARY ITEMS AND ADDED MILITARY TO THE NAME.   AND IT WAS THESE
TWO THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEMORIAL OUTSIDE THE DEPOT.
THEY DESIGNED AND BUILT IT, AND WITH THEIR MONEY FOR THE MOST PART.
AND THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR TODAY'S EVENT.     DELMAR SHOULD
SOMEDAY MAKE THEM "HONORARY" CITIZENS.    THE MUSEUM  HAS BROUGHT MANY VISITORS TO DELMAR AND BY ADDING MILITARY ITEMS.....IT SHOULD DRAW EVEN MORE VISITORS.    IT IS OPEN FROM 10:00 A.M. UNTIL 4 P.M. TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.  CLOSED MONDAYS.   ADMISSION IS $5 TO

REPLACING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE BETWEEN SABULA AND
SAVANNA IS IN THE "PLANNING" STAGE BY THE IOWA DOT.    STATE

A NEW BRIDGE IS A LONG WAY OFF I'M SURE, BUT AT LEAST IT IS BEING
DISCUSSED.

MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SCHOOL PARENTS RECEIVED A LETTER THIS
WEEK ABOUT A POTENTIAL FOR WHOOPING COUGH.    ANN OTTEMAN, OF
THE JACKSON COUNTY HOME AND COMMUNITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT,

VERY CONTAGIOUS.       OTTEMAN SAID THE CASE IS CALLED "UNDETERMINED"

JOSH IS THE OWNER-OPERATOR OF THE "SWEET THINGS BAKERY" IN
DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.    HE IS A 1998 GRADUATE OF MAQUOKETA  HIGH
SCHOOL AND IS A MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB.

NIGHT.   THE BAKERY IS OPEN TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND CLOSED
ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY.     HIS MAIN INTEREST IS DEVELOPING AND
IMPROVING THE DOWNTOWN AREA.
JOSH IS A FRIEND AND KMAQ ADVERTISER AND A GOOD GUY!    I'M SURE
HE WILL ALSO BE A GOOD CONCILMAN.

TODAY, HAS BEEN A SUNNY DAY UNTIL THE SKIES GOT PARTLY CLOUDY THIS
AFTERNOON.   OUR HIGH TODAY, 66.   CHANCE OF RAIN TONIGHT AND
THEN THE REST OF THE WEEK WILL BE SUNNY AND WARM...IN THE 70'S, WITH LITTLE OR NO RAIN.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT TWICE YESTERDAY TO MINOR

THE WEEKEND WEATHER WAS PRETTY GOOD.
HAD A LITTLE RAIN OVERNIGHT LAST NIGHT.
TODAY, SUNNY AND NICE,  HIGH OF 72.
GOOD WEATHER FOR REST OF WORK WEEK COMING UP.

MAQUOKETA SURVIVED THE TORQUE FEST!     POLICEMEN WERE BUSIER
THAN DURING A NORMAL WEEKEND....THANKS TO SOME EXTRA BEVERAGES
BEING CONSUMED AROUND TOWN.    ONE TAVERN HAD A COUPLE MINOR
ENCOUNTERS.    NUMEROUS CARS WERE "EGGED" FRIDAY NIGHT AROUND TOWN.  ATTENDANCE FOR THE TWO DAY EVENT SEEMED GOOD...BETTER THAN LAST YEAR...BUT NO FIGURES HAVE BEEN RELEASED
BY ANYONE.     TWICE TODAY I  HEARD THAT 10,000 WRISTBAND TICKETS WERE
PRINTED AND THAT THEY RAN OUT OF THOSE, SO, IF THAT IS CORRECT, THAT WOULD MEAN $100,000 IN TICKET SALES.   BOTH HOTELS I BELIEVE WERE
FULL AND RESTAURANTS LOOKED BUSY.    A GREAT AMOUNT OF FOOD WAS
PREPARED AND CONSUMED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS, ALONG WITH BEER AND POP OF COURSE.       GAS STATIONS WERE EXTRA BUSY ON PLATT STREET.
SO, THE EVENT BENEFITED A LOT OF PLACES AS ONE WOULD EXPECT.
WILL IT BE BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR?   I DON'T THINK ANYBODY KNOWS!

MANY OF YOU HAVE HAD AN ICE CREAM CONE AT "GRANDPA'S PARLOR" IN DOWNTOWN BELLEVUE.   IT IS CLOSED TODAY BECAUSE OF A SATURDAY
NIGHT FIRE IN AN APARTMENT UPSTAIRS.   IT RECEIVED WATER AND
SMOKE DAMAGE AND THE OWNERS SAY THE WILL RE-OPEN THE BUSINESS.

FOUR MOTORCYCLE DEATHS OVER THE WEEKEND IN IOWA.

SCHOOL BOARD AND CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS TONIGHT.

THE MASTER GARDNER'S PLANT SALE IS THIS SATURDAY FROM 9 UNTIL 11 A.M AT THE FAIRGROUNDS.

PATRICIAN ANN FLEMMING, AGE 68, OF MILES (BORN IN MAQUOKETA)
DIED SUDDENLY LAST THURSDAY.     THE FUNERAL IS TOMORROW AT THE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN PRESTON.    SURVIVORS INCLUDE 1 SON, 1 DAUGHTER, 1 GRANDDAUGHTER AND HER FATHER, BOB RUPP OF
MAQUOKETA.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK.

TOURQUE FEST 2012 IS OVER!    AS THE DRIVERS LEAVE TOWN, THE
BANNER SAYS "THANKS FOR COMING".
FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT, A HUGE CROWD.   AND TODAY AND TONIGHT,
ANOTHER GREAT CROWD.    GOOD WEATHER BOTH DAYS.
THE BAND ABOVE WAS THE FINAL BAND PLAYING IN "VOLUNTEER HALL".
AROUND 15 BANDS ENTERTAINED ON TWO STAGES BOTH DAYS.
AND THE CAR ABOVE WAS ONE OF THE LAST FOR SPECTATORS
TO ADMIRE ON THE MAIN DRAG OF THE FAIRGROUNDS.  THERE
WERE HUNDREDS OF VINTAGE HERE, A RECORD.
IS PROMOTOR JOHN WELLS HAPPY WITH THIS YEAR'S
TORQUE FEST?   WE HOPE SO!    I'LL LET YOU KNOW AFTER I TALK TO HIM AGAIN!   THANKS JOHN FOR BRINGING LOTS OF FUN TO MAQUOKETA!
