WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

IT FELT LIKE SUMMER THIS AFTERNOON!
DOWN TO 18 TONIGHT.

A NEW COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD MEMBER HAS BEEN APPOINTED BY THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS.    KATHY WOSOBA OF MONMOUTH
WILL SERVE A 5-YEAR TERM.   SHE REPLACES RICK SMALL WHO  SERVED FOR 16 YEARS.

THREE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THEIR WAY AROUND A KITCHEN WILL SERVE AS JUDGES FOR THE KMAQ PIE BAKING CONTEST AT THE KMAQ  FARM AND
HOME SHOW.    LAURA PRITCHARD, OWNER OF  "WHISK AWAY CAFE" IN
DEWITT....JOSH COLLISTER, OWNER OF "SWEET THINGS BAKERY" IN
MAQUOKETA AND LEANN KASEMODEL FORM THE DELI AT "THE FAREWAY
STORE" IN MAQUOKETA.   THE CONTEST WILL BE ON DAY TWO OF THE
SHOW.    THERE ARE TWO DIVISIONS, FRUIT PIES A ND CREAM PIES.
FIRST PLACE IN EACH, $30
SECOND PLACE, $20  AND
THREE HONORABLE MENTIONS AT $10 EACH.
WANDA CORNELIUS OF RURAL ANDREW AND THELMA NISSEN OF MAQUOKETA WILL BE  ACCEPTING THE ENTRIES AND ASSISTING THE
JUDGES.

THIS IS CORNER OF QUARRY AND MAIN IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA  AND
HOW IT MAY LOOK IN A COUPLE YEARS.   AND EVENTUALLY, THE TWO
INTERSECTIONS TO THE SOUTH COULD  LOOK THE SAME.    PLUS,
THE CONNECTING STREETS.    IF THE ABOVE GETS FINAL APPROVAL IN
FEBRUARY OR MARCH, THE NEW LOOK PROJECT FOR DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA WOULD GET UNDERWAY.      LIKE IT?

JACKSON COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WENT UP TO 4.9% IN DECEMBER, FROM 4.3 IN NOVEMBER.     THE STATE RATE WAS 4.2%, DOWN FROM 4.3 IN
NOVEMBER.
THE ABOVE BEING SPONSORED BY THE JACKSON COUNTY SNOWMOBILE CLUB.
STATE SENATOR TODD BOWMAN OF MAQUOKETA MET MONDAY WITH GOV. BRANSTAD TO DISCUSS IOWA'S PRESSING TRANSPORTATION ISSUES.
AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE MEETING, BOWMAN AND OTHERS MEETING WITH BRANSTAD AGREED TO CONTINUE WORKING TOGETHER TO FIND A SOLUTION TO IOWA'S ROAD FUNDING NEEDS.   SENATOR BOWMAN IS CHAIRMAN OF THE SENATE TRANSPORTION COMMITTEE.
