FRIDAY DAILY REPORT

78 AND NICE TODAY.
SOME RAIN FORECAST FOR TOMORROW AFTERNOON.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL LOOK AT LIMITING
THE NUMBER OF GARAGE SALES EACH RESIDENT CAN HAVE PER YEAR.
CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNE SAID THE CURRENT CITY ORDINANCE ALLOWS NO MORE THAN THREE.    HE SAID HAS HAD COMPLAINTS OF PEOPLE HAVING FOUR OR FIVE A  YEAR.    POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID THE CURRENT
ORDINANCE IS HARD TO ENFORCE AND THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP TRACK.
THERE WAS TALK ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING TO GET A PERMIT.   SOME PEOPLE
ARE UPSET ABOUT A LIMIT.  
MAQUOKETA DOES HAVE A LOT!    AND SOME SPEICAL BIG ONES TOO, LIKE THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY ONE THIS WEEK.    AND THERE ARE CITY-WIDE SALES.
THERE ARE A LOT OF RESIDENTS WHO PROBABLY NEVER BUY SOMETHING
NEW, OR THEY BUY IT A DOLLAR STORE.    WE  HAVE DOWNTOWN, A
$1-$2 STORE...THE BIG GOODWILL STORE...AND SOON A CONSIGNMENT STORE ON MAIN STREET.   THEN THERE'S THE BIG DAC USED STORE ON WEST PLATT AND TWO DOLLAR STORES ON WEST PLATT, BUT ONE IS CLOSING THIS SUMMER.  

ANOTHER SEMI MAKING THE TURN AT MAIN AND PLATT HIT AND DAMAGED A STOP SIGN AND CHARGES ARE PENDING.   $1,000 DAMAGE TO THE SEMI
(FROM WYOMING, IOWA) AND $1,000 DAMAGE TO THE STOP AND GO SIGN.

THE MAQUOKETA FFA CHAPTER WAS NAMED THE CHAMPION TEAM IN THE ANNUAL IOWA FFA VETERINARY SCIENCE CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENT
HELD AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY THIS WEEK.  MEMBERS OF THIS FIRST PLACE TEAM ARE:    BROOKE LAPKE, MADISON LAPKI, COURTNEY BECKER,
AND CASSIE MILLER.    THEIR INSTRUCTORS AND FFA ADVISORS ARE
GARY BRUNS AND JENNIFER NABB.   THERE WERE 11 TEAMS COMPETING.
THE MAQUOKETA TEAM WILL NOW REPRESENT IOWA AT THE NATIONAL
EVENT IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY IN OCTOBER.
