THURSDAY DAILY REPORT

THERE ARE 58 MEMBERS OF THE JACKSON COUNTY MASTER GARDNERS AND MANY OF THEM ALONG WITH SPOUSES, ATTENDED THE ANNUAL
CHRISTMAS DINNER MONDAY NIGHT AT THE DECKER HOTEL.   AMONG
THE 58 ARE 14 INTERNS WHO TOOK THE MASTER GARDNER CLASS THIS
FALL.     THE JACKSON COUNTY ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED IN 1998.
MONDAY NIGHT, CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION WERE PRESENTED TO
DORIS CURRIER, VIOLA KILBURG, MARY JO WEIS, NORMA ROUND, AND JUDY BOWLING.    HONORED FOR 500  HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK WERE LESLIE HAYES, MARY LOU  JOHNSON AND DORIS CURRIER.
KMAQ STATION MANAGER LEIGHTON HEPKER WAS PRESENTED WITH THE
"FRIEND OF MASTER GARDNER AWARD" FOR 2015.    A COLLECTION WAS TAKEN MONDAY NIGHT AND $165 IN CASH WAS RAISED AND THE MONEY
WILL BE DONATED TO THE JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY.
JUDY TONDERUM IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL MASTER GARDNER
ORGANIZATION.

THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR HELD EVERY SUMMER IN MAQUOKETA HAS BEEN AWARDED THE 2015 "BLUE RIBBON FAIR" BY THE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF IOWA FAIRS.    THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO THE FAIRBOARD AT THE ANNUAL IOWA FAIR ASSOCIATION
CONVENTION EARLIER THIS MONTH IN DES MOINES.     THE FAIRS THAT
RECEIVE THIS AWARD MUST HAVE SHOWN PROGRESS IN PROVIDING SERVICE TO THE YOUTH PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTY.     LANNY SIMPSON,
FAIR MANAGER, IS SHOWN HOLDING THE  PLAQUE ABOVE.

IN ITS FOURTH AND  FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2015, THE CARNEGIE HERO FUND COMMISSION HAS AWARDED 24 CARNEGIE MEDALS IN RECOGNITION
OF CIVILIAN HEROISM  THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AND CANADA.    THE MEDAL
IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO RISK THEIR LIVES TO AN EXTRAORDINARY DEGREE WHILE SAVING THE LIFE OR ATTEMPTING TO SAVE A LIFE.     THE 24 HEROES
ANNOUNCED LAST THURSDAY BRING TO 84 THE NUMBER OF AWARDS THIS
YEAR.     OF THE 24, TWO WERE FROM MAQUOKETA.    MATT TRANEL AND
CORY SIMONSON, WHO SAVED HARVEY UNTIEDT FROM HIS BURNING HOME
IN MAQUOKETA LAST DECEMBLER.    THEY WERE NOMINATED FOR THE
AWARD BY MAQUOKETA FIRE CHIEF MARK BECK.

IN SPORTS, MAQUOKETA TUESDAY NIGHT DEFEATED WEST DELAWARE IN BOYS BASKETBAL, 72 TO 60.   THE CARDINALS ARE NOW 5 AND 0 IN THE
WAMAC CONFERENCE.
THE UNIQUE TREE AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK  WESTSIDE OFFICE.
