IS THIS ARIZONA?
NO, THIS IS IOWA!
88 YESTERDAY...AND 90 TODAY.
NO RAIN THIS WEEK AND COOLER BY WEEKEND.

A COUPLE ACCIDENTS DURING THE FOG SATURDAY MORNING.    AMANDA SHAFFER, AGE 18, SWERVED TO MISS AN ANIMAL ON HIGHWAY 61 JUST SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA AND WENT INTO THE SHOULDER, CROSSED THE NORTHBOUND LANE, AND ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES.   CAR PROBABLY A TOTAL LOSS  AND A BROKEN ARM.  NO CHARGES FILED.   
AGAIN..NEVER SWERVE TO MISS A DEAR OR ANY ANIMAL.   BETTER TO HIT THE ANIMAL!

AN HOUR LATER SATURDAY MORNING, AROUND 8:30, A TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN THE FOG NORTH OF MAQUOKETA.      A MOLINE MAN PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF A WRECKER AND THE TWO COLLIDED.    THE WRECKER WAS ON THE WAY TO THE SHAFFER ACCIDENT.      THE WRECKER WAS DRIVEN BY WILLIAM HAYES, AGE 54, OF MAQUOKETA AND THE WRECKER WAS OWNED BY B & G AUTOMOTIVE AT HURSTVILLE.     NO DAMAGE TO THE WRECKER,  $1,500 DAMAGES TO THE MOLINE VEHICLE AND  NO INJURIES.

A RURAL MAQUOKETA MAN WAS PINNED UNDER HIS ATV FOR ABOUT 3  HOURS OVERNIGHT LAST NIGHT.     THE RESCUE SQUAD WAS CALLED AROUND 11 P.M.
SEARCHERS SPREAD OUT IN THE HEAVILY WOODED AREA.   KORY KUHLMAN, AGE 31, WAS FOUND ON 90TH STREET, A LEVEL B  ROAD, PINNED UNDER HIS ATV.  HE WAS CALLING FOR HELP AND RESIDENTS LIVING NEARBY WOKE UP FROM THE CALLING.     KUHLMAN AND HIS MOTHER OPERATE THE POPULAR KUHLMAN BLUFF LAKE CATFISH FARM RESTAURANT.    NO CHARGES WERE FILED.

SPEICAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT 5 TODAY TO HAVE A  PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS  YEAR'S BUDGET AND TALK ABOUT THE NEW SIDEWALK FOR THE DOWNTOWN
FIRE PROJECT AREA.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING AT 6 TONIGHT AT CITY HALL.    THEY WILL HIRE A NEW
BASKETBALL COACH AND PART TIME FRENCH TEACHER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
KMAQ HAS LEARNED THAT THE NEW VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH WILL BE
MATT UTHOFF, MOST RECENTLY THE HEAD COACH AT CENTRAL CITY.
PRIOR TO THAT, HE WAS A MIDLAND OF WYOMING COACH FOR 1 YEAR AND
IS A WEST DELAWARE GRADUATE.

SATURDAY, AT THE STATE TRACK MEET IN DES MOINES, THE MCHS 4 BY 100 METER RELAY TEAM TOOK 3RD IN THE STATE IN CLASS 3-A.   IT WAS A NEW SCHOOL RECORD TIME.    ON THE TEAM, BRYN GISEL, JAKE KIRK, JON BOPES AND TYLER RUTENBECK.      ALSO SATURDAY, RUTENBECK FIISHED IN 6TH PLACE IN THE 200 METER DASH.  

IN DISTRICT GOLF OVER THE WEEKEND, MCHS SENIOR TYLER  HILLEBRAND TOOK PART IN THE CLASS 3-A TOURNAMENT AT WAVERLY AND SHOT AN 88.   HE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR STATE.     DECORAH WON THE DISTRICT AND  HAD TWO GOLFERS
WHO SHOT A 69.     NOT A BAD SCORE FOR HIGH SCHOOL GUYS.

IT WAS A HOT NICE NIGHT FOR STOCK CAR RACING SATURDAY NIGHT IN
MAQUOKETA.     MAQUOKETA RACERS THAT HAD A GOOD NIGHT, INCLUDED
LANE VOHRINGER, KEITH FELLER, KEVIN BRAME, RAY COX,JR. AND DOUGH NIGH.

JUSTIN  HEPKER OF MAQUOKETA AND 20 OTHERS, WIND UP THEIR CROSS COUNTRY 3,800 MILE  BIKE-A-THON TOMORROW ON THE OCEAN BEACH EAST OF WASHINGTON, D.C.     I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING HIS TRIP ON HIS BLOG AND IT HAS BEEN
ONE GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR JUSTIN,  WHO GRADUATES FROM MED SCHOOL EARLY NEXT MONTH AT OHIO STATE.     THE OTHER DAY, GOING THROUGH WEST VIRGINIA,THEY HAD AN UPHILL 5-MILE STRETCH TO BIKE.     HE BEGINS HIS
INTERSHIP IN JULY AT A CHICAGO HOSPITAL.

SCHNEWEIS, A SENIOR AT MCHS.  SHE IS THE DAUGTHER OF MARK AND CANDACE SCHNEWEIS AND WILL BE ATTENDING THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA THIS FALL.
THE SCHOLARSHIP WAS OPEN TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ATTENDING AREA HIGH SCHOOLS.    THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR FOR THE AWARD AND PPP INTENDS TO
