FRIDAY DAILY

IN BOWLING LAST NIGHT AT TIMBER LANES, TONY CARR  (NOT  HIM OR  TIMBER LANES ABOVE) OF  RURAL MAQUOKETA ROLLED A PERFECT 300 GAME IN THE SUBURBAN BUD LIGHT LEAGUE.   NICE WAY TO END THE YEAR.

 "PASSENGERS" WAS THE TOP MOVIE LAST NIGHT AT THE VOY THEATRE LAST NIGHT.    EVERYONE LIKES IT.


THE TOP FIVE  BUSINESS PLACES IN MAQUOKETA THAT BRING VISITORS FROM ALL-OVER FOR FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT.    ABOVE, THE "CODFISH HOLLOW BARN" NORTHEAST OF TOWN.     THE OTHER FOUR:   "BLUFF LAKE
CATFISH FARM" NEAR THE CAVES....THE  "61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE" SOUTH OF
TOWN...."OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER" ON EAST PLATT STREET....AND THE "DECKER HOTEL AND RESTAURANT" ON SOUTH MAIN STREET.    NOT A BUSINESS, BUT THE "MAQUOKETA CAVES STATE PARK" LEADS THE WAY.
ALL MAKE POPULAR "FEATURES"  FOR TV AND NEWSPAPERS TOO.    LIKE THE ABOVE ONE LAST WEEK IN THE QUAD CITY TIMES  "WEEKEND" SECTION.

ON TODAY'S "JUST TALK" SHOW ON KMAQ, DAVE BURMAHL, JUDY TONDERUM, AND AMBER MATTHEISEN FROM THE JOINT JACKSON COUNTY
FAIRBOARD AND IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION COMMITTEE TALKED
ABOUT PROGRESS OF A SHARED FACILITY THAT WOULD BE BUILT SOUTH
OF THE OPEN AIR SHELTER ON THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.   ESTIMATED COST OF THE 10,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING, $1.4 MILLION DOLLARS.  POSSIBLE CONSTRUCTION TO START IN FALL OF 2018.

THE IOWA FOOTBALL COACHES' ASSOCIATION THIS WEEK ANNOUNCED THE 2016 ACADEMIC ALL-STATE PLAYERS.... AND MAQUOKETA PLAYER, SENIOR AARON OETKEN, MADE THE CLASS 3-A TEAM. 




THE ABOVE 3 MOVIES ARE OFF TO A GOOD START AT THE VOY 1,2 AND 3 THEATRES.    "SING" IS IN THE LEAD.   NO SHOWS TOMORROW, THE 24TH.
OPEN CHRISTMAS DAY.
STARTING SUNDAY, CHRISTMAS DAY AND EVERY DAY, THROUGH MONDAY

CLINTON TOPPED MAQUOKETA 66 TO 11
PLEASANT VALLEY DEFEATED MAQUOKETA 39 TO 33.
THE CARDS HAD TWO WRESTLERS THAT WON BOTH OF THEIR MATCHES
LAST NIGHT, THADDEUS HAD TWO PINS AND ABE MICHEL HAD A PIN
AND A TECHNICAL.


BRING THE FAMILY TO SEE "SING" AT THE VOY THEATRE.   NOW UNTIL

LAST NIGHT, WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NANCY AND I WENT TO DELMAR TO CHECK-
OUT TRENT AND JENNIE USHER'S CHRISTMAS DISPLAY AT THEIR  HOME
LOCATED ON MAIN STREET, JUST 100 YARDS SOUTH OF CASEY'S....ON THE
RIGHT SIDE OF THE STREET.     NOT ONLY IS THEIR HOME NICELY DECORATED, BUT RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOUSE ON THE RIGHT, IS THEIR
NEW 20-FOOT ANIMATED TREE.    THEY HAVE 5 REGULAR-SIZE CHRISTMAS
TREES IN FRONT AND THE ANIMATED TREE TO THE BACK.    WITH A USE OF A COMPUTER, THERE IS AROUND 45-MINUTES WORTH OF CHRISTMAS
FEATURES, ALL ANIMATED TO MATCH THE MUSIC YOU TUNE TO IN YOUR
CAR.    THE LIGHTED FREQUENCY (WHERE TO TUNE IN)  IS IN  FRONT YARD.
PLAN TO SPEND A FEW MINUTES ENJOYING THIS CHRISTMAS DISPLAY,
LIKE NON-OTHER IN THE KMAQ AREA.     BELOW THIS REPORT, IS A VIDEO

AT NOON TODAY, THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS
DINNER AT THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB.
ENTERTAINMENT BY JOEL HAGEN AND MANY OF HIS HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL MEMBERS SINGING CHRISTMAS CAROLS.    PRIZE DRAWING AFTER.

DOUG GONNER (LONGTIME MAQUOKETA FIREMAN) BROUGHT IN TODAY THIS
POST CARD.    THE 3-STORY BUILDING AT FAR RIGHT WAS SUE'S HALLMARK
BUILDING LOST IN THE BIG FIRE 9 YEARS AGO.   I THINK THE BUILDING BEHIND THE BIG POWER LINE POLE WITH FOUR CROSSBARS WAS LANE FURNITURE FOR A LONG TIME.
THE PASTIME THEATRE WAS NOT THERE YET.    LOOKS LIKE THE BUILDINGS ON FIRE LATER BECAME NEW BUILDINGS WHERE IN THE 50'S AND 60'S, SPALDING'S FOOTWARE AND SAGER'S SHOE STORE AND BILL MOLER'S WERE LOCATED.     NICE FIRE WAGON IN LOWER RIGHT CORNER.    IF I AM WRONG ON ALL THIS, EMAIL ME AT kmaq@kmaq.com


LOCASH & JOE DIFFIE CONCERT AT THE 2017 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR
IN JULY.  
JOE IS A GRAMMY WINNER.   MEMBER OF THE OKLAHOMA MUSIC  HALL OF
FAME.   HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE GRAND OLE OPRY FOR 20 YEARS.    HE HAS 13 ALBUMS AND HAS HAD 20 TOP-10 SONGS.

IOWA, IS THE WORLD CHAMPION BAREBACK RIDER.    LAST (SAT) NIGHT
AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP PRO RODEO IN LAS VEGAS,THE 10TH AND FINAL
ROUND OF COMPETITION WAS HELD AND TIM O'CONNELL FINISHED IN A TIE
FOR 4TH PLACE.    THAT 4TH-PLACE-TIE BROUGHT HIS POINT TOTAL FOR THE 10 ROUNDS UP TO A FIRST-PLACE FINISH, AND THE WINNER OF  THE
GOLD BUCKLE.   HIS WINNINGS, $374,272.

THE BELLEVUE COMETS AND BELLEVUE MARQUETTE PLAYED A BOY-
GIRL DOUBLE-HEADER YESTERDAY IN BELLEVUE,.
THE GIRLS GAME WAS WON BY THE BELLEVUE COMETS, GIVING
THE BELLEVUE MARQUETTE GIRLS THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON.
IN THE BOYS GAME, BELLEVUE MARQUETTE DEFEATED THE BELLEVUE

UP IN FIRST PLACE.

WRESTLING LAST NIGHT AT WESTERN DUBUQUE, 
WESTERN DUBUQUE 75, MAQUOKETA 3.   THEY
WON 13 OF THE 14 MATCHES.
ALSO, WEST DELAWARE 60, MAQUOKETA 12.
THE CARDINALS WERE PINNED 6 TIMES.

AGE 75.   HE WAS VERY GOOD GOLFER TOO AND HE WAS PART-OWNER OF  "HAPPY JOE'S PIZZA" IN
DUBUQUE FOR MANY YEARS.

MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL GRAD AND ZWINGLE NATIVE TOM O'CONNELL IS
TAKING PART IN THE WRANGLER NATIONAL FINALS RODEO IN LAS
VEGAS.    AFTER LAST NIGHT'S ACTION IN THE BAREBACK EVENT, HE WAS
IN FIRST PLACE.    THERE ARE 3 MORE ROUNDS STILL TO COME.
SO FAR ,HE HAS EARNED OVER $95.000 THROUGH THE FIRST 7  ROUNDS.


THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SPONSORED A WINDOW
DECORATING CONTEST AND KMAQ WAS JUDGED THE WINNER, WITH THE
THEME  "MEMORIES OF CHRISTMAS PAST".    NOTE OUR 1940'S RADIO.
THE PRIZE WAS $100 IN CHAMBER BUCKS.   AFTER CHRISTMAS, WE
WILL HAVE A STAFF PIZZA PARTY TO CELEBRATE.


THE MAQUOKETA AMERICAN LEGION POST 75 HELD THE MONTHLY MEETING
LAST NIGHT, CONDUCTED BY COMMANDER JERRY WEIS.     THE MONTHLY RAFFLE DRAWING WAS HELD FOR FOUR $25 WINNERS AND THEY ARE,
JIM MANDERSHEID, RICH CURRENT, MARY COOK AND SCOTT BORMAN
OF PRESTON.    THE MEMBER ATTENDANCE DRAWING WAS HELD AND
NOT PRESENT, AND LOOSING OUT ON $300 CASH, WAS LEGIONAIRE
DAVE SCHILLING.    NEXT MONTH, THAT JACKPOT WILL BE $310.
