WE HAD RAIN THIS MORNING.
THE AFTERNOON SO FAR HAS BEEN DRY AND IN 50'S.
MORE RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST FOR TONIGHT AND THE REST OF THE
WEEKEND.

A RURAL SPRAGUEVILLE MAN DIED AFTER HIS TRACTOR FLIPPED AND PINNED HIM UNDERNEATH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. RICHARD GANZER, AGE 77, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE A FALLEN TREE WITH HIS TRACTOR AND IT FLIPPED AND HE WAS DISCOVERED BY HIS
WIFE, KAREN JUST BEFORE 4 P.M.

MAQUOKETA SCHOOL LUNCHES WILL GO UP A DIME NEXT YEAR, BUT OTHER FEES WILL NOT BE INCREASED.

A SMALL FIRE THIS MORNING AT THE STEVE MARTIN FAMILY RESIDENCE AT 502 SOUTH MAIN STREET. FIREMEN PUT OUT THE PORCH FIRE AND THE FAMILY GOT OUT WITHOUT INCIDENT.

JIM SCHUMANN, 75, DIED YESTERDAY AT HIS HOME IN KELLER, TEXAS.
HE ATTENDED MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE,
3 SONS, A DAUGHTER, AND A SISTER, MONA DAGUE OF MAQUOKETA.
THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE TOMORROW IN TEXAS.

A FORMER, WELL KNOWN MAQUOKETA RESIDENT, MAXINE TAYLOR, AGE 86, DIED ON FEBRUARY 7TH AT ORLANDO, FLORIDA. SHE AND HER HUSBAND FLOYD CELEBRATED THEIR 65THE WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON JANUARY 12TH.
FLOYD, AGE 89, LIVES WITH HIS SON RICH IN ORLANDO. MAXINE'S "REMAINS" WILL BE BURIED AT MT. HOPE CEMETERY IN MAQUOKETA.
IN EARLY YEARS, SHE WORKED FOR HER BROTHER BABE SHAFFER AT THE
FAMOUS TANGO ON HIGHWAY 64 WEST (NOW OBIE'S) AND LATER MAXINE AND
FLOYD MANAGED THE DECKER HOTEL, THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB,
LAKEHURST SUPPER CLUB, THE OLD VFW RESTAURANT IN THE BASEMENT
WHICH IS NOW THE LAW OFFICE NEXT TO KMAQ, THE HI-HO BOWLING LANES AND TAYLOR'S TOT AND TEEN CLOTHING STORE.
MAXINE ALSO HAD WORKED AT PENNY'S...SEAR'S MAIL ORDER STORE...THE FISHING TACKLE INDUSTRY....AND AS THE SECRETARY TO GENE STREETS AT
CLINTON ENGINES. IN ADDITION TO RICH, THEY HAD A YOUNGER DAUGHTER,
KIM, WHO DIED IN 2007 FROM MS AT THE AGE OF 52. SHE HAD A DAUGHTER NOW IN COLLEGE AND RICH HAS 2 DAUGHTERS AND 4 GRANDDAUGHTERS.
THE EMAIL FROM RICH SAID HE WAS A FAN OF MY 61 DRIVE-IN WHEN A KID AND ALSO SAID HE WAS A GRADUATE OF THE MHS CLASS OF 1968.

A HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISH TO JOHN H. IN MORTON, ILLINOIS, FROM HIS FRIENDS IN MAQUOKETA. HIS BIRTHDAY, SAYS HIS MOM, IS TOMORROW.

THE MAQUOKETA KIWANIS CLUB ANNUAL GOLF OUTING HAS BEEN SET
FOR MAY 22ND AT THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB. FOR MORE INFORMATION,

THE PEACE PIPE PLAYERS NEXT PRODUCTION WILL BE...."ALWAYS...PATSY CLINE"....AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER. MARK IT ON YOUR
CALENDAR. TRYOUT FOR THE PART OF PATSY AND A FRIEND (JUST TWO IN THE CAST) WILL BE ON MAY 20TH AND 21ST AT OHNWARD. IT WILL
BE PRESENTED ON JULY 13, 14 AND 15.

THE HIGH SCHOOL IS PUTTING ON "OKLAHOMA" THIS WEEKEND AT
OHNWARD.

THE ANNUAL FFA BANQUET IS THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE HIGH
SCHOOL.

RICH STIMMEL IS RETIRING FROM WAL MART AND A PARTY TO HELP CELEBRATE HIS RETIREMENT WILL BE FROM 3 UNTIL 6 P.M. TOMORROW
AT THE FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH. HE WILL CONTINUE LAWN MOWING
AROUND TOWN THOUGH.
HE HAS BEEN A HARD WORKER FOR FAR TOO MANY YEARS....AND DESERVES TO TAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER. HIS DAUGHTER DARLYCE GETS MARRIED THIS
AUGUST.

THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL VOLUNTEER LUNCHEON WAS HELD YESTERDAY AT THE
CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.
AFTER LUNCH, "VOLUNTEERS" DURING THE LAST YEAR AT BOTH MUSEUMS WERE RECOGNIZED AND THANKED.
ALSO, AS IN PAST YEARS SINCE
1999, THERE WAS THE NAMING OF THE GRACE TUBBS MEMORIAL SUMMITT AWARD WINNER.
IT IS PRESENTED EACH YEAR TO
AN OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER BY THE TUBBS FAMILY, IN MEMORY OF GRACE TUBBS WHO WAS AN ACTIVE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER.
THE AWARD YESTERDAY WAS PRESENTED TO GARY EGGERS OF MAQUOKETA.
GARY IS THE VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR OF THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD. HE GETS NO PAY FOR THIS JOB WHICH HE HAS HAD FOR 7 YEARS AND USUALLY REQUIRES ABOUT 20 HOURS OF HIS TIME A WEEK. STEVE (RIGHT) AND AL TUBBS PRESENTED HIM WITH $500 TO GIVE TO HIS FAVORITE
CHARITY. AND TO NO SURPRISE, HE SAID HE WOULD GIVE THE MONEY TO THE COMMUNITY CUPBOARD. HE WAS ALSO PRESENTED WITH AN ENGRAVED GLASS MANTEL CLOCK. THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD IS USED BY AN AVERAGE OF 100 FAMILIES EACH WEEK, WHO STOP BY ON FRIDAY MORNINGS FOR THE FREE GROCERIES.
