WHEN YOU PAINT A CITY WATER TOWER, YOU NEED MORE THAN A BRUSH AND SCRAPER. A PHOTO OF EQUIPMENT EXPLAINS WHY THE PROJECT WILL COST THE CITY AROUND $320,000. MORE BELOW.

THEY STARTED PAINTING THE MAQUOKETA WATER TOWER UP BY THE HIGH SCHOOL THIS WEEK. ACTUALLY, NO PAINTING YET, JUST SANDBLASTING OFF THE OLD PAINT. A SIX-WEEK PROJECT. CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE. YOU CAN
SEE SOME MEN WORKING ON THE UPPER RIGHT JUST UNDER TANK. AT COFFEE THIS MORNING, DR. MELVIN BERNARD (retired optomitrist) SAID HE LIVED NEAR THERE WHEN TOWER WAS PUT UP AND THAT A MAN FELL FROM IT AND DIED.
I DID NOT REMEMER THAT. ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO.
