CLOUDY TODAY IN MAQUOKETA.

MAQUOKETA WON THE HOMECOMING GAME LAST NIGHT AT GOODENOW
FIELD.

THE CARDINAL SOPHOMORES ALSO WON 51 TO 13 TO REMAINED UNDEFEATED.

A MAQUOKETA WOMAN RECEIVED INJURIES AFTER SHE WAS HIT BY A CAR
BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ON SOUTH NIAGARA THIS MORNING.
SUE BRIMEYER, AGE 47, WAS BACKING FROM HER DRIVEWAY AND IN THE FOG, DID NOT SEE DARLENE COX, AGE 59, WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK.    THE BRIMEYER
CAR HIT COX AND KNOCKED HER DOWN AND SHE WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE
TO THE HOSPITAL AND TREATED FOR INJURIES.

A MAQUOKETA WOMAN HIT THE FRONT OF SUBWAY RESTAURANT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.     GLORIA KAUFMAN, AGE 81, WAS PULLING INTO THE LOT AND HIT THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE AND RAN INTO THE BUILDING.    SHE THEN PUT HER CAR IN REVERSE AND HIT AN ADJACENT PARKED VEHICLE.
THE MOST DAMAGE, ABOUT $10,000,  WAS DONE TO THE BUILDING OWNED BY
JOHN HARMS OF MONTICELLO.

RICK HENSHAW IS THE NEW OPTIMIST CLUB PRESIDENT.   HE'LL BE A GOOD ONE.
PRESIDENT-ELECT IS TOM PETAROS.     51 YEARS AGO, I WAS ENJOYING HOME
MADE CARMEL APPLES MADE BY  HIS MOM AND DAD AT THE FAMOUS GREEN
MILL, DOWNTOWN.     HE ALSO WILL BE A GOOD PRESIDENT.    KMAQ'S LOIS FISCHER IS SECRETARY-TREASURER.    I HOPE SHE ALSO DOES A GOOD JOB AND THAT
IT WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH HER SALES AT  KMAQ.      RUTH SHEETS IS
ASSISTANT TREASURER.    WITH HER HISTORY OF BANKING, SHE WILL DO A GOOD JOB.      THE RICH CLUB NEEDS TWO TREASURERS.
NEW BOARD MEMBERS ARE KATE KRABBENHOFT AND JUDY BICKFORD.    I DON'T KNOW KATE, BUY DO KNOW JUDY AND BOTH WILL DO GOOD ON THE BOARD.
THE OPTIMIST CLUB MEMBERS EAT A BIG BREAKFAST EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING, PREPARED BY THE GREAT COOKS AT THE EAGLES CLUB.
AWARDS WERE PRESENTED THIS WEEK AT THE OPTMIST MEETING TO JUNIOR
OPTIMISTS ANDREW LONG AND JOHN DANIELS, BOTH OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL
CARDS CLUB.     ANDREW IS THE SON OF RUSS AND JANE LONG AND JOSH
IS THE SON OF STEVE AND CINDY DANIELS.   AND..FINIALLY, THE OPTIMIST OF THE YEAR AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO TED STRAIT.   

APPLICATIONS FOR THE JIM MAROUSIS MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE ACCEPTED
UNTIL  OCTOBER 1ST.      THEY CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE OFFICE OR CALL 563-652-2451, THE HIGH SCHOOL NUMBER.     THE COMMITTEE
TO SELECT THE WINNER(S) EACH YEAR INCLUDES:   CORLIS BATY, CLYDE HARPER, CURT COLEMAN, DR. PETE ATIENZA, DEAN ENGEL AND JULIE KINRADE.
FIVE MEN AND ONE WOMAN.   
JIM MAROUSIS WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL  BUSINESSMAN IN THE 40'S AND  50'S.
HE STARTED THE GREEN MILL, BUT DIFFERENT NAME.    HE WAS ACTIVE
IN THE LEGION AND WAS A BIG FIGHTER AGAINST POLIO.    WHENEVER HE CAME INTO MY OFFICE, HE DIDN'T ASK FOR PUBLIC SERVICE SPOTS, HE TOLD ME HOW MANY HE WANTED.     GREAT GUY.     WILL NEVER FORGET THE NIGHT HE TOOK NANCY AND I TO A DINNER AT THE GREEK RESTAURANT IN MOLINE OWNED BY HIS BROTHER.
HE TOOK US WITH  HIS CAR, BUT I DROVE.     GREAT GUY.    I LIKED HIS  SON JOHN TOO.   NOW ALSO DECEASED.    SURE WISH THE GREEN MILL WAS STILL
OPEN.
