NICE DAY TODAY...SUNNY , BREEZY AND IN 70'S.

ANNE HAWKS WON RE-ELECTION TO THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD
YESTERDAY, BY A SMALL MARGIN OF 83 VOTES OVER GEORGE HOUSTON. OVER 700 WENT TO THE POLLS AND OVER 300 VOTED ABSENTEE.

THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS RECEIVED AN OFFER FOR THE S & H BUILDING IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK, THAT WAS GIVEN TO THEM OVER A YEAR AGO. THEY DID NOT LIKE THE OFFER FROM A MANUFACTURING COMPANY THAT PRODUCES PRODUCTS FOR THE HOME AND WILL ANSWER THE OFFER WITH THEIR REQUIREMENTS. THE COMPANY WOULD GUARANTEE 20-25 JOBS.

THE LONE BUILDING LEFT STANDING IN AT THE SOUTH END OF MAIN STREET IN MAQUOKETA FOLLOWING LAST JANUARY'S BIG FIRE, MAY SOON BE THE SIGHT
OF A NEW BUSINESS, A FAMILY POOL HALL. DAVE WIERSMA OF MAQUOKETA,
WHO ALSO OWNS THE "GOT HER DOWN" DETAILING BUSINESS ON EAST PLATT,
HAS PURCHASED THE BUILDING THAT JUST BEFORE THE FIRE WAS TO BE A
PICKLE BARRELL SUBS RESTAURANT. BUT, THE STATE FIRE MARSHALL WAS AT THE BUILDING TODAY AND HAS ORDERED WIERSMA TO BRING THE BUILDING UP TO THE 2006 STATE FIRE CODE BEFORE HE OPENS THE BUSINESS.

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA HAS HIRED A NEW DIRECTOR OF HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRIES, A PARTTIME POSITION AND SHARING ARRANGEMENT WITH CAMP SHALOM NEAR MAQUOKETA. SHE WILL WORK 12 TO 15 HOURS A WEEK AT FIRST LUTHERAN AND THE REST OF THE WEEK AT THE CAMP. SHE IS MAGGIE ATKINSON, A NATIVE OF DAVENPORT. PREVIOUSLY, MARIE STERN HELD THE JOBG AT BOTH SITES. SHE LEFT IN AUGUST OF 2006 AND THE POSITION AT FIRST LUTHERAN HAS BEEN VACANT SINCE THEN.

THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
