NO DAILY NEWS TODAY...SORRY!

.

NOT MANY KNOW....

THAT....

THERE IS A FAIRLY NEW "BED AND BREAKFAST" IN JACKSON COUNTY.

NANCY AND I TOOK THE CAMERA FOR A VISIT MONDAY NIGHT!
IT OPENED AFTER EXTENSIVE REMODELING AND REDECORATING A
COUPLE YEARS AGO....BY DICK AND DONNA HEFEL.    REMEMBER, YOU
CAN CLICK-ON EACH PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
FROM MAQUOKETA, GO NORTH ON HIGHWAY 61 AND WHERE THE
"WHITE FENCE BUSINESS" IS LOCATED, TURN RIGHT ON  91STREET AND
IT WILL TAKE YOU TO IT ON A GRAVEL ROAD A FEW MILES.    LOOK
FOR THE SIGN ABOVE AND TURN LEFT AND GO UP THE LANE.   IT
IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF BEAUTIFUL JACKSON COUNTY'S TREES,
CORN FIELDS AND SOYBEAN FIELDS.

THAT'S DICK AND DONNA SITTING ON THE FRONT PORCH.    CHECK-IN TIME, AT 4 AND CHECK-OUT AT 11 A.M....AFTER A GREAT BREAKFAST BY DONNA
WHILE  DICK IS MOWING THE LARGE LAWN AND TENDING THE SHEEP.
ROOMS, JUST AROUND $55 A NIGHT.    MORE FOR THE 3RD FLOOR FAMILY ROOM.
BY THE WAY, STATE REPRESENATIVE PAT MURPHY OF DUBUQUE IS
DONNA'S BROTHER.
THE HOME HAS QUITE A HISTORY.      CARLYLE MERRITT, A 1953 GRADUATE OF MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL, GREW UP THERE.
THIS IS ONE OF THEIR FOUR 2ND STORY ROOMS.    EACH DECORATED
DIFFERENTLY AND EACH WITH NEW FIXTURES    THE SHOWER BATHROOM IS DOWN THE HALL.

JUST A PARTIAL VIEW OF THE ROOM FOR THE FAMILY IN THE 3RD FLOOR
ATTIC.
THE PARTY GAZEBO NEAR THE HOUSE.   NOTICE....THE FLOWERS....THAT
ARE ON THE PLACE, HERE AND EVERYWHERE.
THERE IS A BIG MODERN BARN ON THE GROUNDS AND THEY RAISE GOATS
AND SHEEP TO SELL HERE IN IOWA.

THE ABOVE PHOTO WAS TAKEN THIS PAST WINTER AT THE HORSE BARN AT THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA.    MY GRANDSON
JACOB (MOTHER LONNA WORKS AT MSB WESTSIDE OFFICE) IS SHOWN WITH
DOC.
DOC DIED OVERNIGHT LAST NIGHT......AT AGE 17 (EQUAL TO OVER 100 HUMAN YEARS)
HIS OWNERS ARE BRAD AND LAURIE ASHBY OF MAQUOKETA.
THEY HAVE HAD DOC SINCE HE WAS A PUPPY AND HE LIVED AT THE  HORSE BARN ALL HIS LIFE.   MANY FFA AND 4-H  KIDS GOT TO KNOW DOC OVER THE
YEARS.    JACOB HAS SPENT A LOT OF SATURDAYS IN MAQUOKETA THE PAST 8 YEARS AND OFTEN WE WOULD GO OUT TO SEE DOC AND THE HORSES AND JACOB WOULD "THROW-THE-BALL" WITH THE DOG.
THE ASHBYS ARE SAD TODAY, JACOB IS TOO...AND THERE WILL BE OTHERS...
ALL REMEMBERING THE GOOD TIMES WITH DOC.
I TALKED ABOUT HIM ON MY MORNING SHOW THIS MORNING...FIRST TIME IN 55 YEARS I DID EULOGY FOR A DOG.
